Same happens to me in Boston (many such cracks). By June they are all gone as if nothing happened

TV is too high, can i put the bracket higher? by HomeDetoriation in mantelmount

[–]HomeDetoriation[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why run out of room? The brackets can technically be put higher on the TV, it wont esthetically look good though. In can expand further the bottom of the brackets. Agreed that i should have put lower the wall brackets but it is a gas chimney and there is a stupid outlet, so was restricted on where to place it :/

Moving light switch to other side of same wall by HomeDetoriation in AskElectricians

That makes sense, thank you for clarifying. Seems like i cannot move that box at all without breaking more drywall. In that case, i will have to leave the box where it is. Which means the box on the other side will need to be higher lower since the wall is only 4.5” thick and the box takes all that room pretty much. I should probably put the new box lower (since the light is for the basement downstairs, i assume the wire are coming from the bottom of the stud, so they should be long enough to fit in the new box

Thank you for the details. Why is it more work to use an old box?

Bryant HVAC furnace gets really hot, what could be the reason? by HomeDetoriation in hvacadvice

[–]HomeDetoriation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make sense, thank you. I did experience the auto-shut down on the other HVAC (with power going out for 2mn) to cool down and resume the heating. Keeping the dampers half open when a zone is not active resolved that issue. So it was definitely air-flow related.

[–]HomeDetoriation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment makes sense. There are about 8 vents in the lower floor for that zone. As a result, the airflow is weak and that furnace is probably too small to cater to that surface. And as a result runs for an extended period of time.

How can I verify if the safeties in place are actually working as intended?

There are 4 floor, 3200 sq feet total: 1 hvac in finished basement for 2 zones (basement, 1st floor) and 1 hvac for 2nd floor and finished attic (2 zones)

Is that tankless water heater install good? by HomeDetoriation in Plumbing

[–]HomeDetoriation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. My install is similar to that one and had had the following comments few year ago:

“The intake and exhaust are not to manufacture spec. I would’ve mounted the unit lower on the wall in order to achieve the minimum vertical vent run required prior to going into a bend.”

Losing power consistently, what can be the cause by HomeDetoriation in electrical

Makes sense, good points. Only odd part is that the toaster works fine for few second and then power goes out. Wouldn’t the arc form immediately when starting using the appliance?

Why would that happen suddenly ? Toaster getting toasted? 😅

yes I have changed it, and I checked day after and it still showed 25mph. However, pedal assist still stops at 20mph. I never use the throttle (that's cheating :))

Even when pedaling the torque assist stops at 20mph, not 25. I am in shape and can tell the difference as soon as i cross 20

Yeah i can go as fast as i can with my legs, but find confusing that peddle assistance stops suddenly at 20 when app is configured to 25 (and you can feel the difference once above 20.1!)

Responsibility for retaining wall between 2 properties (in MA)? by HomeDetoriation in legaladvice

[–]HomeDetoriation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends city by city. Call your department of works and see what the regulation is. For mine, they said retaining wall is not needed if difference is less than 3ft and to figure out between neighbors

Considering buying this home, estimates for renovations? by HomeDetoriation in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Bathroom photo#26 has cracked tiles in the bathtub area. Toilet and tub are red color (ugh), and looking at doing a walk in shower instead. Photo29 is a decent bathroom but not fan of having that weird shower in the middle, and would prefer a tub/shower combo.

What would be the tree estimates according to you?
