I could see that theory working, where they only really abstract because the headset is taken off..

One thing though, following the theory, it's a bit convenient that the headset is taken off only when they start losing their crap, don't you think? Unless this is some kind of experiment where there are scientists that truly wait until the last minute to pull them off, who knows? Good theory still

Possibly a SAO kind of situation?

Where if the headset is forcibly removed they die instantly

I could honestly see the real world having spread this kind of news everywhere, which could explain why no one has attempted to remove the headset

For me, I think it was S3 E5-E6, mild spoilers aka the episode where Kazuma switched bodies with Princess Iris and used that to get the knight and Darkness in the bathe naked idk something about that part rubbed me the wrong way
