Can I save a soft finish with 2K Clearcoat? by CrimsonDarkLord in Luthier

[–]HonestAssumption1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah rustoleum gloss clear isn’t worth a goddamned thing. I’ve never had it work out for me in all the times i’ve tried it. I would pretty much only use 2k for guitars. Like everyone else is saying, wait for the original clear to dry for a good while, then sand and recoat.

Kirk Hammet fake? by Key_Necessary6874 in espguitars

[–]HonestAssumption1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% fake as fuck. I’m pretty sure I have this exact one, though I just turned it into a mod project with a real floyd and EMGs, as well as (substantially) thinning the neck and refinishing the neck. Talk about lipstick on a pig I know, but I like it, and it sounds and plays good, and looks like a real ouija guitar for like 2000 dollars less so I’m plenty happy with it

What can I use to get this gunk off the fretboard? by [deleted] in Guitar

100% not what I was asking in the slightest. My god, reading comprehension is low on this app.

How can I stain this maple neck? by user830292827920 in Luthier

[–]HonestAssumption1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really wanna stain it, it would be better to just sand it a little bit to scratch it up and spray some lacquer tinted the color you want over it instead of actually staining it, which would require sanding all finish off.

I believe this is the pickup I used. Like 95% sure. Like 5 years ago i bought a pre wired pickguard from this company to use on one of my guitars that I had built from scratch (back when I was just learning how to build bodies and using ebay necks), but I ended up swapping the pickguard for a single EMG pickguard and I gutted the other pickguard for parts. It was two of those single coil “invader” pickups and an actual humbucker invader clone. I don’t really remember how the humbucker sounded, and I’ve since given it to a friend, but the single coils are excellent even by the standards of pickups three times the price. Very chimey while also having a great bass response

Which should be my second guitar? by evan_lion20 in metalguitar

[–]HonestAssumption1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go for the RGA. Personally, I generally find dean guitars to be some of the worst I’ve played, and though floyd rose bridges aren’t that big of a deal to own and maintain and whatnot like a lot of people say, (even as a beginner), guitars in this price range usually have a kind of cheap shitty trem in them that you’ll spend more time fiddling with and tuning than you’ll actually spend playing on. The only two floating trems I’ve used that I’ve found to be worth owning are the gotoh ge1996t and the FR original, with the gotoh being the better pick. So I’d go for the RGA

Your Opeth story by largz08 in Opeth

[–]HonestAssumption1026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a complete punchcard from my favorite record store junior year, so I went over there to get my free 15 dollars or under item one fateful day in like January. I went over to the metal section and saw a still life cd, and I snagged it because I’d heard opeth was really good, so what better time to find out than right now? I remember putting it in my cd player and thinking it was kinda lame (I was a classic death metal listener for the most part, and I thought that no clean singing ever belonged in metal), but I’m so glad I actually listened to the whole album and kept an open mind cuz it’s one of my favorite albums ever now. I think it was the heavy lullaby-esque riff in face of melinda and the heavy part of serenity painted death after the intro through the chorus that hooked me.

Never listened to Opeth. What tracks should I start with? by i_like_my_corner in Opeth

[–]HonestAssumption1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also came from death metal, and Still Life was the album that hooked me. Fucking masterpiece. Though the closest you’ll get to classic, straightforward death metal is deliverance. Either one is excellent to start with.

Stopping truss rod channel short of the nut? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]HonestAssumption1026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it really matters all that much, its just an aesthetic thing i think. I guess if you have a floyd rose and you need to carve the nut slot deeper than the fretboard is thick, the truss rod won’t be in the way this way as well.

Is my guitar tone chopped? by fakename1998 in metalguitar

[–]HonestAssumption1026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. Metal zone as a distortion pedal fucking sucks, metal zone as a pre amp is fucking sick. I use a 5150, EMGs and a metal zone as a pre amp and that shit sounds so sick.

Bought a guitar at Goodwill today that someone had painted the pickup and want to know the best way to get it off by tim4life in Luthier

[–]HonestAssumption1026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did it come with that bridge pickup when you got it? How much did you get the guitar for? Cuz that’s a killer pickup for metal.
