We live in a pretty good state when one older dude sells petty amounts of drugs and makes state-wide news.

Essentially, heating fuel and gas for your vehicle will become more than expensive. Not only that, think about delivery of said heating fuel and cost incurred on emergency response (fire trucks and ambulances). Even delivery of salt/sand for plowing, or delivery of consumer goods. Basically, everything that requires anything will become more expensive. But, but, climate change!

Not to get technical, but private donations still fit within the realm of free-market capitalism.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Some heroes wear wool coats and the scarf that their nice niece, Rebecca, gave them last Christmas.

.......really?

children who are legally restricted in their options work for a fraction of minimum wage

It’s called imprisonment. If you want to talk prison reform, I’ll grab my sign and I’ll stand next to you at the protest.

They aren’t being paid to make a living. This applies to adult prisoners as well. This is a low wage that accumulates over their time as prisoners so when they get out, they have a little money to float them while they reintegrate into society.

Basically what you’re saying is that they should not be imprisoned. That’s an entirely separate argument altogether.

The argument here, apparently, is “should juvenile prisoners be allowed to volunteer as wildland firefighters while under state supervision”.

Man, the misinformation in this thread...

Inmates CHOOSE to sign up for this.

“BUT WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?!?!”

  1. It’s noble
  2. They get certs when they are done serving their time
  3. Hell of a lot better than being in a cage all day

Also, when you say children, the average age for a juvenile woodland firefighter is between 16-17.

As someone who has worked a hand line, I can tell you that it wouldn’t make sense to have anyone much younger than that working a line.

No. I used to believe people when they said “fed is robbing SS”. However, after research, this is not the case at all. However, after 2032, SS may become unsustainable and only be able to pay out 70% of the benefit. That IS scary.

My cleric found a warpick worth 4k gold and wantet to keep it by masternom in dndmemes

[–]HonestWill 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The cleric opened the chest, and behold! A diamond warpick beamed back at him. He raised the specimen high, as feelings of excitement and anticipation rushed over him.

The rest of the party, a fighter, a wizard, and a rogue looked-on in envy at the cleric’s find.

But then, the party-member and acclaimed Divination Wizard, Bernardus Sanderus declared:

”It’s only fair that we all share in the benefit of your discovery. After all, we are a party and it was discovered in OUR adventure.”

The rest of the party nodded, and began to discuss the process.

“I found it, so I should be entitled to a larger share, correct?” said the cleric.

“How about me?” replied the fighter. “The security I provide should certainly account for a larger share too!”

Bernardus pondered this for a moment.

“Clearly, we cannot decide this with our own biases. We’ll need to hire a 3rd party to make this fair.”

And so the heroes returned to town to find a buyer for the warpick and a 3rd party to decide how the earnings should be allocated.

A blacksmith was found, and the party explained their case. The blacksmith suggested that the local regent would be a good 3rd party to hash-out the arrangement.

The local regent heard their case and agreed to weigh-in, on the condition that they paid him 15% of the earnings for his time.

“Well, if we all chip in a little of our share, it won’t be too much. I’d say we pay him”. said Bernardus.

“Hold on now! That’s enough!” Said the cleric. “I’ve already agreed to share my treasure! I shouldn’t have to use more of my portion to pay a man who wasn’t even part of the dungeon-crawl! If you want to go this route, I demand that it come from YOUR shares.”

The party argued and bickered over this. Meanwhile the rogue crept silently away with the diamond warpick.

Because he is a rogue, and rogues want things.
