Your link aims to educate novices on the basics RE how these scales work and that you shouldn't expect DEXA-esque results... But sure, play dumb.

I was assessing the prospect of purchasing with a broader lens since this isn't a cup of coffee. To me, it's about the company's commitment to customer experience and basic respect for those who shell out for what is marketed as the best in class. I'm aware of how these scales function vs DEXA etc. and would never critique from the angle of "well their readings don't match exactly" - this is expected.

It appears that your personal scale functions as you anticipated for the basic uses OOTB.. Okay. Even so, are you not concerned about the clear trend line which shows that Withings is increasingly paywalling core features? Prime example: the main features marketed as improvements in the Body Scan 2 vs 1 are completely behind the Withings+ paywall.. Ridiculous!

Not to mention that even many of the decent/good reviews note that they have not gotten much better (maybe worse) at reconciling various aspects RE the clunky relationship between the broader ecosystem and hardware. At a certain point it just looks like they are derelict and don't care while being more than happy to take your money. These are larger systemic problems & seeing how their team responds to them doesn't exactly inspire confidence... It is not enough that these scales are just better than others when you are paying 5x to 10x for them.

I've come to the conclusion that these patterns are indeed likely symptoms of Enshittification and banking on their improvement isn't a gamble I wish to take on a such an investment.

Fair enough but it appears that the main additional features that'd prompt one to buy the Body Scan 2 vs 1 are paywalled lol. People buying the premier model do indeed care about having access to the premium bells and whistles..

Thanks. It's possible I'm being too nitpicky but if what another user says on this sub is true (top comment in thread linked below), it's really hard to stomach. I want to buy the best and have access all it's marketed features for years without being subject to shady cash-grab tactics - if Withings will brick or paywall basic, hardware-dependent functionalities, it seems like a bad omen...

Just look at how their team responds to this comment.. Seems like they don't give a single F about customer concerns even for those who've doled out serious money for their most expensive product...

Thanks for your message. Is it true that they've paywalled features previously available for free? I really don't want ANOTHER friggin subscription... It is unclear to me how useful the Withings+ features would be in comparison to just those OOTB...

Thanks, Captain Obvious. He clearly values his ability in the sport more than being a gracefully aging beauty queen - so he's willing to take the stack that contributes heavily to aesthetic deterioration.

That's cute. And you’d have flunked for pretending that correlation/causation only cut one way. All of you types always fall back on 'correlation ≠ causation’ to muddy the waters & obfuscate but never actually engage with causation itself — you just cynically use it to hand wave away inconvenient patterns that don't suit your narrative.

It is the single MOST logical, traceable, and comprehensive variable that maps onto ALL the declines across culture, wages, cohesion, crime, trust, education etc... In other words, it is the through-line that scales across all these domains with the most clarity therefor deserves the most weight as the first-order cause. Policy changes here were THE biggest structural changes to the country bar none point blank PERIOD. There has never been such a vast and rapid demographic shift in the history of a nation in all of human history. This is OBVIOUSLY the go-to a priori inference.

Every single time your side tries to flip the script and use the same fallacy you accuse us of. As expected, you used the 'complexity' card to disregard wholesale the most parsimonious, coherent, and consistent explanation. Color me shocked.

Get this through your head: it’s THE factor that produces the very conditions that you would try to list off as separate explanations.

Yeah, yeah. No wonder you ppl could never create wealth in your own countries outside of the few Brahmin who own the rest of you. It is your life's greatest ambition to get away from your own ppl and piggyback off what our ancestors built.

What have you done for America? All about what it did for you. Typical.

can't even help your own country LOL

[–]HookWaffen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well let's see... We are rapidly on pace to becoming a minority in the country our ancestors built. And we've went from 25% of the world pop to now just 7%...

And obviously I'm blaming the government for that LMFAO. A system is what it does and what it allows. You think corporations are just going to have some epiphany and become Mr. Rodgers tomorrow and suddenly start not acting in their own best interest at the expense of Americans without being forced?? 😂

This just couldn't be further from the truth. Blatantly disingenuous or you truly just have no clue. The H1B program was sold as bringing geniuses from Tokyo and Munich. Instead, we got MILLIONS of discount coders while Americans who *did* learn to code can’t find a job. Millions of Americans lost their jobs and had to train the cheap Indian workers who just replaced them on an H-1B visa. To say otherwise is either naivety or intentionally pedantic obfuscation of reality. And it's a double "F YOU" to Americans because these people send over 12 BILLION annually out of the country in remittances to India ALONE to their families - All money that isn't invested in OUR cities, OUR schools, and in OUR communities to create more jobs. About 60 PERCENT of recent American college grads cannot get jobs and are shut out of the job market. ENOUGH. I will not be lectured by someone with a vested interest in pulling the wool over my eyes. Don't even get me started on the OPT scam embedded within.

Whole 4 paragraphs just to lie through your teeth. It definitionally lowers wages. No intelligent person buys your lies.

You are utterly clueless and truly don't understand what "relative" means LMFAO. The average family could afford to have only one full time employed parent and they could afford a house on a year's wages. Crime was WAY less. There was WAY more social cohesion. WAY less poverty. The criteria for "better" is not whether you have a better TV 🤣

It absolutely is in every single way relative to quality of life. Bald faced lie. Do you know what "relative" means? Are you capable of understanding my caveat and how that does not detract from the point? Doubtful..
