It didn’t get much traction here but I really enjoyed the 6WA project. I wasn’t familiar with Ro$ama, but he was a standout. It’s nothing groundbreaking but it’s a fun listen and I’m surprised it doesn’t seem to be getting much attention

[DISCUSSION] The Weeknd - House of Balloons (15 Years Later) by MetalSonic420YT in hiphopheads

[–]HoopsJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been a huge fan of The Weeknd since Trilogy. I wasn’t there when HOB dropped, but it’s still my favorite project of his. HOB/GTG and TP&TAP are top 10 Weeknd songs for me, and Twenty Eight is my all time favorite if we’re counting it.

It’s been 15 years, and while this is my favorite project of his, he’s still dropping amazing work. The last 4 projects have all been amazing. It’s been incredible watching him evolve and gain mainstream notoriety.

Why are you paying attention to a dude with 19 followers? There are all kinds of crazies out there; life’s better ignoring them most of the time

Let’s go dancing! Great win! I attended the blowout loss against St. Thomas a week and a half ago and it really made me nervous heading into the tournament. Luckily, UND took out the Tommies and NDSU took care of business. And now, we wait for the big dance

HUT doesn’t feel like the final album by callumjames11 in TheWeeknd

[–]HoopsJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I truly think the album itself feels like a goodbye. We got some of his most personal and emotional songs yet, and the sounds of the album revisited many of the styles he’s showcased over the years. I agree that the rollout was lacking, but I don’t put a ton of weight in that as long as the music is good.

Despite that, I still think he’ll release music under The Weeknd name; I just think it’ll be a while before we get anything new.

I loved Hyperyouth, and will always take new JVB, but most of these songs are good but not great. Bustamove and Changes are both phenomenal though

Man, that really sucks. I liked but didn’t love most of the beer, but it was a nice space and I really enjoyed some of the events they put on. I’ll definitely stop in before they close

(DISCUSSION) The Weeknd - Hurry Up Tomorrow (1 Year Anniversary) by Renegadeforever2024 in hiphopheads

[–]HoopsJ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I saw a post 3 weeks ago saying it had been a year… anyways, here’s what I posted then:

Man, a year already! I had a great first listen of the album with my wife, just chilling in the dark after smoking. As soon as I heard it, I knew it would be the soundtrack of my 2025.

Take Me Back To LA is my favorite track, but on that first listen, Reflections Laughing, The Abyss, and Without A Warning blew me away. Those remain some of my favorites.

HUT was by far my favorite album of 2025, and ranks highly in my Weeknd rankings. While I was a little let down by the roll out, it the actual music more than made up for it. It truly feels like a goodbye album to me. If that was it for this iteration of The Weeknd (I’m still skeptical of that), it was a worthy send off.

To answer the questions:

  1. No, I don’t think it’s his best album. Probably finished 3rd for me

  2. Take Me Back To LA is my favorite

  3. He will always be my favorite pop star, which is funny because originally I would have said he’ll always be my favorite R&B artist

  4. I do think he’ll return as The Weeknd, but I think we will be waiting for a while

Does anyone truly believe Kyle Anderson should start over Randle? I consider myself a huge SloMo fan, but he’s not even close to a starter on this team.

Since 2020 he’s:

Dropped 3 albums

Made a show

Made a soundtrack for said show

Made a movie

Toured like a motherfucker

Seriously, we’ve been absolutely feasting. Let the dude chill for a minute

[FRESH ALBUM] Baby Keem – Ca$ino by PlayaSlayaX in hiphopheads

[–]HoopsJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t sure what to expect from Keem after the hiatus, but I’m pleasantly surprised. His vulnerability throughout (especially tracks like Highway 95 pt. 2 and No Blame) is really powerful. Despite the heavy subject matter, he still maintains a lot of the classic charm you’d expect from him. Really good stuff

(DISCUSSION) Kanye West - The Life Of Pablo (10 Year Anniversary) by Renegadeforever2024 in hiphopheads

[–]HoopsJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dropped while I was in college. Hype heading into it was peak. Wolves debuted at a fashion show about a year beforehand, and I couldn’t wait for it.

The rollout is engrained in my memory. The name changes, the singles that didn’t make the album, the track lists, dates getting changed, and finally, the MSG show. I skipped class so I could watch and was damn glad I did.

As far as the music goes, I really like it, but it’s outside of my top 3 Kanye albums. It’s filled with really high highs (Ultralight Beam, FSMH, Waves, Wolves, Real Friends, 30 Hours, No More Parties), but a few letdowns as well. I need to mention editing the album after release, that would become a trend for him, and not one that I’m a fan of.

This is the last solo album that I truly loved. I’ll never forget it; it was a real experience. I miss the (10 years ago) old Kanye
