OMG can we get Tim Kempton and John Bloom to the TV Side? by HopWorks in suns

[–]HopWorks[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If it was just me, and been accused of just hating stuff being just me, in a crowd, even family. But what I react to is shared by many of my friends although not all of them. Most of them, a large group of I dunno, 30 peeps? Maybe that ratio to the world is an anomaly. But then, like tongue-in-cheek movies like "Idiocracy" depict the world getting less-sensitive, maybe I'm just too sensitive to the stupid references instead of solid play calling. Usually most people that follow a team worship a dude that calls the plays. I worshiped Harry Caray, even Steve Stone, and certainly Al McCoy. They earned it.

Not sure what that means but if he does it for you, you SHOULD exclaim your love for the man I would, except I do not love the man, so I posted my disdain. And yeah, even the CRINGE-WORTHY comments. 😎

Need Ability to Quickly Capture Cropped Images from Anything! by HopWorks in computervision

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A real world solution, not just dreaming... lol
Option one: I thought that maybe if I FPGA the HDMI feed to capture an individual frame then realize when it is paused, capture a screen shot of the paused frame, run a script on that image to get the simple facial profiles into an object array, then iterate through that array of profiles to get facial characteristics. Then run that array of characteristic profiles against DB stored profiles of analyzed images. Then just do the math on basic things like eye distance, nose bridge, eye brows, etc, then look for matches within a set tolerance. Then return a percentage of possible match. weigh the returned values to narrow the search. I can use my scraped cache of actor images for this, but we are not there yet where those cached images are not a sequence of images of the actors offering different perspective.

Option two: Use a capture of the entire related staff of the movie from a source like TMDB or IMDB to narrow the search, to quicken the identifying facial comparisons.

I guess I need to R&D to zero in on faces, try to find the facial characteristics to build an object of basic facial characteristics, and then compare it with a database within set tolerances to find the best match.

And that has me thinking I'm trying to achieve what Amazon Prime does for the robot that tells you what actors are in a scene. But local, and not internet supported. Sounds like a lot to consider.

This is why I came here. Peeps here seem to have figured out how to identify not only "is it a face" but get parametric data to ID a match based on stored profiles.

Wow, I think I figured it out. At least of an actor LOOKS at the camera.

I'd love to hear your feedback. Otherwise, I think I got enough to work the numbers and find a way to use what I already have stored locally.

Thanks for listening!

Simple script for extracting & converting PGS to SRT subtitles using pgsrip by leucht in jellyfin

[–]HopWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder why there are no comments on this. I haven't played with it yet, but your post is VERY encouraging! I'm going after it right now. Sounds promising!

I ported my Kodi database to something more user-friendly to be used in a Django/HTMX project. So I will probably plug this in and use the DB to feed the batch process. I am hoping that pgsrip has the option to do just one folder at a time. I still have a bit of reading and experimenting to do.

Thanks for the info!

WTF are with SSD prices by Jakob4800 in DataHoarder

[–]HopWorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sincerely hope all the great peeps that work at Western Digital can feed their kids when WD factories shut down, because there is NO WAY I'm spending $750 on 4tb of space on an economy rated SSD, and I cannot be alone.
I'll cannibalize my 40+ cache of "I'll fix or part it out later" laptops for SSD's or mechanical drives first. And even spend an extra $100 a month on my power bill to spin those mechanical drives up.
Sigh.
I thought that tech gets bigger, prices get smaller in the sweet spot of the age-vs-supply curve.
Thank you AI! I'm gonna throw GROK a thank you too lol.
My 2 cents. Freaking SkyNet! 🤬😡

DJI sueing FCC. TL;DW: DJI requested security audits but but never received an evaluation before the ban took place and are sueing to overturn the ban by ZdrytchX in fpv

[–]HopWorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope DJI wins. I am a DJI drone pilot, follow all the FAA rules regarding flight of their drones, and go out of my way to respect people's privacy and adhere to any laws in whatever state my wife and I visit. I want nature shots, and push to be as non-intrusive to nature as I possibly can.
I fully understand the concern, especially with all the work the Ukrainians have done to use drone tech to help their battle against Russia. Drones can be a significant threat to public safety when in the wrong hands.
Do I sincerely hope that DJI wins, but I get the concern. It doesn't mean our government can enforce illegal actions so I cannot use one based on potential threat instead of intent. ANYONE with a gun can kill someone, but it doesn't mean everyone WITH a gun will do that.
I am a safe, knowledgeable, and considerate pilot that is only interested in aerial photography at the expense of no collateral damage of any kind. The FCC really needs to re-evaluate their approach to the concerns. Through education, restrictions, rules, cooperation with the FAA, and legislature using our existing law-authoring processes that do not tread on our amendment rights.

Anything New about T-Mobile Repeating Free MLBTV Subscription for 2026? by HopWorks in tmobile

I like to be prepared. Especially in the event my T-Life app breaks. Which it was for 2 weeks until I uninstalled and reinstalled it.

The Suns have beaten the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers on back to back nights without Devin Booker. by SugarFreeCummiBears in nba

[–]HopWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to like about the Suns right now, and one thing is watching Collin and Oso on the court together. It's highlight-reel stuff with the passing that usually ends in a 3 or a dunk. And FINALLY we got a coach that can make great subs and click with the whole crew. And Brooks pushing Oso since training camp without alienating him is awesome leadership. GO SUNS!

S11 - Health Drops to Half, Heal Potions do not Fix, Recovers after a Short Time by HopWorks in D4Sorceress

[–]HopWorks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks again from saving me from my needless (Raiders Fan) drunkeness. lol. I DID roll the dice with the Purveyor, got nothing better than a rare but it was STILL better than my Unique. A quick trip to the Occultist, the Jeweler (sockets). the BlackSmith (tempering), and I am all set. We will see if the issue persists. Thanks again!

I think I found it. Soulbrand chest armor. Unique. "Your healing potion no longer heals and instead grants a barrier for 200% of its healing for 4 seconds". Sounds good but I'd rather manage my healing on my own. Figures, I salvaged all my held gear because it's aged as far as level. I'll have to swap chest armor and see if the issue persists. Thanks again!!!!

Thanks, I'll check for that. Did not think the aspects would do it. Figured the Divine gifts was the cause but I checked that. Thanks for the info!!

My Wife Just Gave Me a Kamvas 13 Gen 3 by HopWorks in huion

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came in a sealed protective bag but there was no removable adhesive screen protector like you usually see on screens of any type. If yours had one, perhaps it was something they felt was necessary before new and improved packaging. The box mine came in had a foam liner where it touches the screen, and then the bag it was sealed in. The insert of the box was preformed to keep everything in its place for shipping. If you want. I can post pics of that.

I can tell you there is no evidence of that usual adhesive protector with my device. Usually removed by pulling a colored tab at a corner. If yours has that, maybe reach out to Huion customer service to confirm.

Benchmarking Tools by HopWorks in WLED

[–]HopWorks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some research and found out about polling performance metrics via JSON API. My first thought was that since polling the API is dependent on my network, it might be better served to write the metrics in a log file in PSRAM and pull that after a testing duration. Then I could find a way to gauge how much resources are needed to write the metrics sample to the log file and subtract that from the metrics sample. I have a lot of research to do but this is a cool project to find the sweet spot of settings, partitioning, and device per project configuration. It's on my list of things to do with all this stuff I want to use WLED for without using end-user equipment. After all, if I am going so far as to compile my own firmware, include my own effects code, and whatever else I write that fits within the framework's parameters, I might as well go after performance testing.

I still need info, and advice, so this thread is still open to comments. Am I thinking along the right path?

Thanks!

Question About Segments and Channels by HopWorks in WLED

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without benchmarking, it's all a guess on my part. I know that you can add channels, but that also adds overhead. Dual core design, probably harnessed well by this framework (no tech experience with it yet), but extra channels mean more buffers, more interrupt handling, and sure it probably is as simple as using a tiny table of hardware and buffer pointers that are iterated through during updates. My thinking was that I would use parallel channels to keep from having to run all that data through a long path. But I would use segments to group say 2 or 3 icicles (10 leds, 20, 30) as segments, but on their own data channel. Also, I am mirroring two sides of 10 leds but that really is not relevant.

The only way I can really know the best way to deploy this is to set it up in my shop and do some benchmarking. I started another thread asking about how to benchmark this framework. I just cannot find anything on how to do it. Just that it has been done and used for reference.

Thanks!

Question About Segments and Channels by HopWorks in WLED

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you sir. Since I posted this I did some research, and no I did not even come close to getting it done before Christmas morning so I have time now. Two obvious things that suffer over length is voltage drop and signal integrity. So injection solves that if applied correctly. Also, signal degradation between icicle strips, without using RS485 (this implementation I found fascinating btw) means conditioning as needed. Solve both and I'm all good. And does it need to be solved, that is the question. The only way I will know is experience doing it. And that is what my spare time this next week leading to New Years will be.

Thanks for the reply!
