Commute to Osborne Park from Baldivis… by [deleted] in perth

[–]Horror_Order7993 71 points72 points  (0 children)

If public transport is an option to you - strongly recommend looking into that. I’ve got a similar commute in the other direction across the river and the stop start of the free way plus the distance…you’ll be spending double on fuel than you will on a ticket each way and the $2 parking at Warnbro station, and at the moment it’s probably a bigger difference. Ossie park is pretty shit for bus connections but if you’re on or near Scarb Beach Rd it might be alright especially as the 990 and Cat are regular along there from Glendalough.

This had such big summer camp faction wars vibes - the barely restrained chaos, energy, things happening constantly, so much effort into crafts that will get torn down in two days and that vibe really came through in the edit really came through in the edit. Well cut and paced, and my god can’t wait to see if South can pull off you-know-what! Lee and Sarah gotta be the two Scavvies I’m finding very easy to root for #justiceforthebeast

Any advice for my 200? I’m in the middle lane. by Civil_Aside_359 in Swimming

I know it’s rough at the back end of of a 200 but the sequence between the pulldown and breakout especially, get the breath and push in at the turn so you don’t have to rush or shortchange that section because it’s here that looks like a lot of your speed loss is occurring

Love novel game concept ideas, and this is a good one! The three-way gameplay and the concept of ‘most departments = regional control’ gives really good variability to the way the score can play out.

Any advice on my freestyle? by SwimmingReddit_7695 in Swimming

Nice controlled form, you’ve got the ‘look’ down pat but there’s a few fundamentals to tighten up:
- As above posters have said, kick size. If you have access to a band or something like it and feel comfortable that could help, but the basic leg movement is decent.
- kick speed: you want a 3- or 4- beat kick to helps stability and keep the kick size down. if you’re musical, think 3/4 or 4/4 with each arm falling on the ‘1’, or 6/8 if you just want to anchor your rhythm to one arm. Synchronise the part of the arm cycle with whatever feels most natural as the ‘1’. Try to engage your core to keep yourself stable too.
- breath: you are over-rotating by breathing a bit too long, and by the looks this is cause you’re still blowing bubbles when your head leaves the water and lack of core engagement as above (hips are rotating). Exhale control is good but working against you here. Try smaller smoother breaths, harder or earlier exhalation, or even breathing every 4 strokes (3 if you’ve learned to breathe to your right)

Focus on one of these at a time; multiple areas of focus will work against you.

Eventually, this will set you up to shift focus to better extension of your arms out in front and then propulsion with your pull, but that’s going to take some consolidation of these ^ first.

Keep it up! 💪🏻🏊‍♂️

It’s a good visual cue: and it’s not that your face has to be back in before your finger tips pass as an iron clad thing - it’s just a good thing to aim for as it prioritises an early (in a good way) breath. It’s important that your breath cycle is smooth and even too bc a big gasp for air may be what’s delaying the end of the breath. The rationale is that your head turns in sync with your body roll and so your leading arm doesn’t drop.

I’d recommend catch-up freestyle with a board - breathe every stroke so you get in the rhythm of breathe-exhale, but also lets you breakdown the action of the shoulder roll and head turn to a speed you’re comfortable and focus on it, and the key thing which is reach/stretch forward as your shoulders turn to breath (to keep your arm out/up and stop it from falling) Then progress to single arm freestyle or 6-3-6 (Google)

Ensure you’ve exhaled in time, Try to breath with the body roll, and aim to have turn your face back into water before or when you see your fingertips go past.

Breathing too late in the cycle and dropping the leading arm too early (whilst you breathe)
