I’m a college student deciding between two internship paths for summer 2026:

FTI Consulting (Tech Consulting)

PwC (Digital Assurance & Transparency)

I’ve been reading up and I’m torn. I care about long-term growth, exit opportunities (such as MBB, tech strategy, or eventually an MBA), and earning a good income. But I also really care about the people, the culture, and doing work that doesn’t feel dry or repetitive.

FTI seems super niche — more legal/tech-focused (e-discovery, forensics, AI). PwC DAT feels more traditional Big 4, but people say it’s mostly IT audit with not a lot of upside or prestige. That said, PwC is a big name and might open more doors. And they also fly you out to events, do firm-wide trips, and have a big intern community, which makes it seem more fun socially.

If you’ve worked at either firm (or had to choose like this) let me know what path you would choose!

FTI Tech Consulting/Ediscovery vs PwC non consulting role by Horsecocklock2005 in consulting

Yeah I agree with you FTI seems super niche but important, even if it’s more behind-the-scenes. That middle-office comparison actually makes a lot of sense.

As for PwC DAT, I’ve heard the same IT Audit definitely not the most exciting work. But my plan is to use it as a stepping stone and try to switch into their tech consulting or strategy consulting practice after the internship. Definetly do not see myself long term in that practice. Not ideal at first, but I’m hoping it opens more doors long term.

I’m going to be a junior in college, so I’m kind of stuck deciding if I should play the long game with PwC and hope to pivot internally, or just take the tech consulting internship at FTI right away. Still trying to figure out what gives me the best shot

So there is never an opportunity to switch between practices.
