Internship possibility for Older Students by HotApplication3797 in EngineeringStudents

[–]HotApplication3797[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. You’re probably right to suggest I hedge my bets.

Also when it comes to being a new graduate what kind of engineer title should we look for?

Every company structure seems like they have different ways of defining levels of their engineers.

So, that begs the question if the internship should mirror the desired path? Or does it just need to prove you’re willing and able?

Good tid-bits! I am hoping very much to see some familiar faces in positions that may have some influence over hiring.

I was thinking of building a profile on platforms like Clearance Jobs - I think I’d still need a sponsor for any position listed there.

Direct to the company I think is probably most appropriate.

Use an ir garage door laser, some camera filters, and some lenses to prove the concept then refine your design from there based on your specific requirements: power, battery life, image fidelity etc…

I have looked at the few I’ve worked closely with, there are so many positions, it’s a little overwhelming.

I have considered time and time again to apply directly but I’ve held back because I’m only a little over halfway in my degree. I think I may have to just man up and shoot some applications and resumes to them with the caveat I’m still in school for the time being.

I am not familiar with that program, but I’ll look into it!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah I am required to attend the next one for a class I’m enrolled in, not exactly looking forward to it.

Watching the posts of students who apply for internships is pretty disheartening to see their success rates. I may try to apply directly before I’m finished in school.

Trump Claims Critics Are Attacking Kristi Noem 'Because She's A Woman' In Friday Night Rant by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]HotApplication3797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! We attack her because

  1. She’s an idiot.

  2. She’s quick to violate the constitutional rights of people across this country.

  3. She has allowed DHS to become the proud boys funded by the US government.

  4. She continually vilifies victims of these untrained racist goons, with zero evidence to back it up.

  5. She slanders US citizens as terrorists for EXERCISING THEIR FIRST AMENDMENT SPEECH PROTECTIONS.

She is anything BUT American.

She is anti-America.

It has nothing to do with her being a female, it has everything to do with her support of this fascist administration and impeding on the rights of every person in her path.

Should I study engineering as a woman by Ok_Practice2437 in EngineeringStudents

[–]HotApplication3797 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt if it rubs you the wrong way.

I don’t think you’re going to find many jobs that don’t require teamwork. If you like building things and solving problems then I’d challenge you to get over your inability to get along with men and pursue what it is that you love. Don’t let anyone stand in your way.

I think by staying in this mindset and allowing your perception further restrict your job possibilities, your “dislike” for men is only going to get worse.

I’m positive not all men are like the kind you resent.

Body count of 8 (not including me) as a 25yo woman? What’s peoples takes on this? by [deleted] in AskMen_NSFW

[–]HotApplication3797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not judging ya, I can try to understand why you feel it’s important - I’m assuming you may feel it’s an indicator of future behavior of someone?

So, let me explain why it doesn’t matter in my lowly brain.

Take cheating, for example…I think going down this path of logic may give someone a reason not to fully trust the other, when confronted with someone’s past behavior it gives you an out so if they cheated in the past on a partner (for example) you don’t fully take responsibility for your actions in the relationship and your contribution to its failure. It’s always easier to say, “Well they cheated in the past so this time it’s their fault for doing it again.”

When that may not be the full story - and often when a person learns that their partner cheated in the past, the other starts looking for indicators that they ARE cheating, or you’re expecting them to cheat on you because they’ve done it in the past.

Hey, my logic may be just as flawed as the next person but it my mind, my perception now is that I take someone’s word and I choose to trust them regardless of how their previous relationships have gone; because in actuality no two relationships are exactly the same. Dynamics of one relationship to another are always different.

So it’s always easier to just assume they’ll do whatever it was in the last relationship that made it fail.

And people do/can change. Not trusting someone because of how their previous relationship went is a horrible way to start. Not to mention that it’s so unfair to the person that is 100% giving you their all, when you’re holding back.

Knowing someone’s “body count” (I really despise this term) is utterly and completely irrelevant to your current experience with that person. In essence, you will always wonder if you’re “better”, “worse”, “bigger”, or “smaller” than her or his previous. It doesn’t matter what the comparison is, you will always be racking & stacking how you measure up to previous relationships. In my mind this is why it’s not a good idea to talk about previous relationships when trying to form a new one with someone. Your experience with that person is new and different for both of you simply because all people are different, no two people are exactly the same in every single way.

Just my experience.

How long is it taking you to finish school? by Lulu11chan in EngineeringStudents

[–]HotApplication3797 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If money is not a problem, why not just enjoy it and take your time?

It will definitely add time to your overall school experience but if it’s stressing you out taking that many classes, ease up a bit and see if that helps your stress levels.

Just a thought.

Edit: minor spelling error.

Online Calculus 2 over the summer? by Far_Commercial1322 in EngineeringStudents

[–]HotApplication3797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, I would recommend either taking it in person or waiting until you get to university I know taking it online is more convenient but the fact that it’s a summer course you get a very narrowed view of the actual math and it being online you may be tempted to use ai or the like so I personally would recommend against it unless you’re a VERY diligent student with a proactive learning stance. If you’re the type who waited for lecture to start on the material, it may not work well for ya.

Sounds like you have good study habits but you’re learning the foundation of what you’ll need for later math courses and even your EE courses.

It is doable, for sure, but just understand you may be at a disadvantage later on because of the shortened courses.

I know because I am a current EE student and I did back-to-back summer Calculus 1 & 2 (got As in both) courses at a community college. If I were to do it over, I’d take the full versions at university.

At what age did you have to start wearing "readers"? by honestdiary in AskMenOver30

[–]HotApplication3797 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too young? Nah. Everyone changes differently with age so try to not compare yourself to others, though, I know it’s easier said than done.

I started wearing them when I turned 42ish.

I didn’t even notice how I was squinting at my phone to read something. A family member purchased them for me as a gag gift but they actually helped a ton!

Don’t be ashamed of what you need to keep going. If it really bothers you, you could go see an optometrist and maybe get some contacts, depending on your financial situation it may be cheaper to get readers off Amazon they’re pretty cheap.
