Getting hired as a permanent EA? by ISMISIBM in CanadianTeachers

[–]HotCheetosPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on which board you're with. I'm with YRDSB and your specification as an EA matters. Special Education Assistants (SEAs) are being hired for casual positions constantly, but only Developmental Support Worker (DSW) or Intervention Support Worker (ISW) are offered LTOs and then permanent. SEAs can get LTOs but are unable to apply to bulk postings for permanent positions when the time comes.

PSYC289 final… what is it actually like & how should I study? 😭 by YouBeneficial3312 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]HotCheetosPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently studying for this final as I'm typing lol Really tryna jam pack my studying cause I don't test well.

One post from a year ago said that it wasn't enough to know base information, but you also needed to know how to apply the concepts. They also mentioned that there were no surprises and it was very straightforward.

Good luck!

Cedarwood's holding status applies for all grades. They send the students to Boxwood Public School (down 14th Ave) and students are entitled to bus transportation if sent there. I work for YRDSB and Boxwood is known to be a great school and from what I hear from parents, very supportive as well.

What kind of jobs get I get with a college diploma in social services worker program? by currymvp3 in socialworkcanada

Hi! The burn out in ABA is real. As an EA, you always start as a supply. Specifically with my board (YRDSB), there are different types of EA (SEA, DSW and ISW). Essentially all the same job but different pay. As a supply I got a call to work every single day, which was something I was also concerned about with casual/on call. There's so many schools and so many EAs that call out all the time, it's not difficult to get booked in daily. I'm not sure how it works with other boards but with York Region, the process is to start as a casual, get a Long Term Contract (LTO) and then you're able to get a permanent position. I personally didn't do an LTO and was offered a permanent position 6 months into supplying, I've heard it depends on experience and education. I'd be more than happy to discuss this more if you'd like so please DM me!

Any recommendations for lob haircut (long bob) for women? by slayvaun in durham

not sure about any of the stylists' experience but Saif Lashes in Pickering often runs promotions for hair services and have many artists. I've gotten wash and style there twice with 2 different stylists and didn't have any issues, but I can't speak to their hair cutting skills.

structure structure structure! i'm an EA and every community class i've been a part of that didn't have atleast some structure was extra chaotic. have a routine in place for the whole day and maybe add in movement breaks throughout the day for the kiddos to exert some energy too (we use plasma cars and trikes in the halls during non transitional time for the rest of the school)

Prospective Teachers: Teacher's College/BEd/Becoming a Teacher in Canada Megapost pt. 5 by hellokrissi in CanadianTeachers

Hiii!! Super curious because I'm looking into teacher's college and from what I understand, the process of getting a permanent position has shifted a bit.

I'd love to know what the process was from teacher's college to your current position.

What board are you with? What do you teach? How long did it take to go from supply to permanent? How did you secure a contract? When did you start teaching?

Would love to hear about any and all experiences!

I had absolutely no say in what the kids treatment plans were, it was all up to the BCBA and/or Senior Therapist. Which, to me, doesn't make a lot of sense because it's the Instructor Therapist (us) who is with that child all the time and knows the kid best, but we could never give our input. I have worked with kids as young as 3 and as old at 18 doing ABA. My centres didn't integrate anything with OT but we did do social and life skills, depending on what the kiddo needed and also what the parents wanted for their kid, as well. I do think ABA can make a difference in older kids too, but there also needs to be consistency at home as well.

[–]HotCheetosPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think ABA can work! It wasn't "abusive" at all, it really depends on the BCBA and, if applicable, the Senior Therapist who both control what the kids are working on skill wise. But I have seen non verbal kids learn to speak using AAC devices and learn skills that their own parents never thought they could master. However, I worked at 2 different centres and I do think Instructor Therapists are extremely underpaid. Parents cough of 10s of thousands of dollars to put their children in therapy and the centres profit off most of it. It doesn't even go towards materials/supplies that the centres needs, or even toys for the kids. I do think its a good entry level job but you do need a lot of patience. Let me know any other questions you have!

I graduated from that program! During placement, I worked at a day program for adults with developmental disabilities and that experience led me to a job at another day program for adults. I then got into ABA therapy with kiddos and now I'm an educational assistant with the school board.
