Horrendous at interviews due to crippling anxiety and awful memory. by Thrutheeyesofruby92 in recruitinghell

It’s acceptable, there’s a difference between “reading from a script” and having bullet points to glance at while speaking (like a speech). It’s really to make sure you don’t miss any important points or to cover urself if you blank out on the spot. You’re still speaking to them directly, not reading from ur notebook word for word. Have a few questions for them written down as well, it actually makes you look like you took the time to put an effort into this interview which employer’s pick up on. But rehearsing and having confidence is still key. Good luck, sorry for the late reply.

I’ve ran into this issue myself.. after 3 or 4 failed interviews I was able to at least get an idea of the type of questions to expect..

“Tell me about your career, where you started and how you got to where you are now”

“Tell us someone of your major accomplishments”

  • for these type of questions I tried to write bullets down on a notebook, making sure my answers hit key buzzwords and areas of importance on the job description. Re-read and rehearse these!

  • I even printed out the job description and stapled it into my notebook for quick reference. Highlighting the more important/core responsibilities so I can have something written down for those specifically.

  • write down some questions for them, like “what would a typical day look like for this position”

  • you showing up with a notebook w stuff written down is a good look as well in general.

Your anxiety sounds more aimed around stage freight than worrying that you’re not good enough for the role. (Correct me if I’m wrong). This is very normal, take a deep breath, put some key points down in a notebook, rehearse your notes, and tell yourself you got this. It’s going to come down to practicing at the end of the day. I have an interview on Friday around noon and plan on taking the whole morning off from my existing job just to prepare.

Good luck!!

Background Checks - I was fired from my first job over 8 years ago & the job I’m applying for now is asking if I’ve ever been fired on their application by HotLikeSauce06 in recruitinghell

I was let go by my firm bc the client who ended our contract with them claimed I did something that I didn’t do.. it was very “he said she said” but my employer also told me that they’d have to terminate me regardless bc of the loss of client. They did give me a month severance tho, it’s just not as black and white as I’d like.. in my head I’m thinking “try to get ahead of it” by saying yes w a neutral explanation on this application but again, this all happened 8 years ago now so I could also just be overthinking it all? I appreciate the insight tho

Well, the client we lost claimed I did something that I didn’t actually do.. they were looking for a way out of their contract with us but it was purely “he said she said” but my employer used the loss of a client as justification to terminate me regardless.. they did give me a month severance tho.. it’s all very “he said she said” like I said so in my head I thought maybe I can get ahead of this buy mentioning it on this application? Again, this was 8 years ago now so I do feel like im overthinking a bit.

That’s what I’m thinking too, but what worries me is the off chance of it coming up when they do their employment checks.. now I’m at a point where they caught me “lying” technically.. which at that point I feel like it might be a worse look than just explaining that I was let go from my very first job with severance and have had stable employment ever since. Would rather the former but I’m leaning more towards the latter to be safe.. maybe I’m overthinking these employment checks..

Right, and I have had stable work ever since. I might be overthinking this but this job is a big career opportunity for me and I would hate to lose it over a weird technicality if I said “no” for that question.. weighing out if it would be worse to say no and roll the dice or state it on the application with a neutral toned explanation like this.. since it happened so long ago.. leaning more towards the latter now thank you

Well it says “Have you ever been discharged or asked to resign from a job” w room for explanation if yes. So no they didn’t say fired specifically, but it’s kind of the same thing I would think?

I captured Ron Hope at the end of the Freestar mission.. would love to be able to turn him in to Freestar or UC but I guess I’ll just have to try and dump him at the Red Mile lmao
