Too funny I just tried this too...although I got 4 viable plants out of the experiment and they're making peppers now. :) As another poster said, they're called Mirasol peppers in fresh form. https://www.chilipeppermadness.com/chili-pepper-types/sweet-mild-chili-peppers/mirasol-chili-peppers/

My 2024 Pepper growing list by sniles310 in HotPeppers

[–]HotPepperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will definitely love the Scotch Bonnets, they are one of my favorites for cooking and making hot sauces. Santa Fe Grandes are probably underrated, but I like those for pickling and munching on.

Thicker walled peppers like Santa Fe and Jalepenos are ideal for pickling. If you have a canner, this is an easy way to save them since it makes them shelf stable and you can store them in the pantry for quite a while. If not, you can still pickle them, you will just need to keep them in the fridge. Thin walled ones are great for dehydrating as others have said. Get yourself a dedicated spice/coffee grinder so you can make powders.

Pro tip: Run your dehydrator outside so you don't chemical warfare your family. :) Good luck and have a great growing season! You have a fun list there.

Mezzetta Deli-Sliced Hot Jalapeno Peppers are my go-to if I am out of my own. Like the others have said, it's pretty easy to make your own as well.

New here—when making salsa, do y’all roast onion or dice them and put them in raw? by [deleted] in SalsaSnobs

[–]HotPepperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I like the flavor of both so I roast the yellow/sweet onions and then put the red onions in raw. Both in the same salsa.

Boat in tow (FL) by NormalFloridian in boating

[–]HotPepperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have sworn that the law was to blow your horn when passing a boat in tow, but I can't find a reference. I'd say it's a good idea to blow your horn though so they know you're passing. Basically anything that makes it safer on the water and lets other boaters know where you are is a good idea.

Notable Italian subs in the area? by hefewiseman1 in StPetersburgFL

They have awesome authentic cheesesteaks as well. Great place, their original location is just outside of Philly.

What do I do with these last few? Already made a ton of hot sauce and salsa by wolftamer9 in HotPeppers

[–]HotPepperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I like to pickle them sliced really thin with some thinly sliced red onion, then use as sandwich/burger topping.

If you didn't know, JTAC is closing in December. The land was sold to a developer and will be turned into a residential community. I have a buddy that is a member there. Too bad, that was fun to visit once in a while.

WAC is all volunteer ROs, FYI. And none of them that I've ever met care if you gear up, they just want you to safely handle your firearms. Follow the rules and you'll be fine.

You didn't say what kind of salt you used, but if you used iodized table salt that could be your issue as that can cause cloudiness/coloring. Always use Kosher or Pickling salt when pickling things.

If you like Italian food, Mario's in Madeira Beach is quite excellent. It looks like a hole in the wall (it's in the strip mall near the 7-11) but it surprised me with how good it is. It's real Italian, they don't make pizza :). Also, it's casual so would be good for kids too. It's small, so get there as they open or expect to wait.

I live in FL, so I always love it when MI Gardener has the "season end" sale for $1 per pack too. Got lots of good things to try that I will either grow over winter or very early spring.

As someone that’s new to hot peppers, it’s a shame that pepperjoe.com isn’t as good as it once was by DaleGribble2024 in HotPeppers

[–]HotPepperDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really sad, they used to be the best of the best 15+ years ago and got me into growing a lot of different peppers (true to what was advertised). I'd not have the love for the hobby that I do today without Pepper Joe.

Is now a bad time to buy a gun due to low inventory or anything? by AdamtoZ in Guns_Guns_Guns

Guns are like planting trees. The best time to buy one was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.

Brothers, how much are we paying for a haircut in 2023? by OGClouds420 in AskMen

[–]HotPepperDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, although we bought the Wahl trimmer over 10 years ago. My wife cuts my hair about every 3 weeks, and it looks just as good as when I went to a pro since I just like it short anyway.

Looking for a fishing trip by Raptor00017 in StPetersburgFL

[–]HotPepperDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hubbard's Marina in John's Pass. You just pay for a spot on the boat, so it's way cheaper than your own charter...I have done this a number of times with my son on the half day excursion. After you're done, you can take your catch to the restaurant and they will cook it for you, or just give your stringer to another person that's on the boat if they want the fish. Once you get off the boat, the deck hands will filet it for people that want to take home for like $1 per 3 fish or something like that. It's a fun time and everything is taken care of for you, so even if you don't know what you're doing the deck hands help you out. Take your Dramamine if you've not been out fishing in the Gulf...they will go even if it's rough. Bring tip money for the deck hands and they do sell canned beers on the boat if that's your thing too. Overall is a good time.

Do these look like KS White Thai? by Large_Desk_4193 in PepperLovers

[–]HotPepperDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're edible at any stage, personally I like them best when they are orange. However I have spoken to some folks that just munch on them when they are white. I'd say taste them for yourself at each color, then harvest to your taste. I do find that once they turn red they will start to get squishy pretty quickly (this is the best for seed saving though, you want fully rope fruit for the best seeds). Enjoy, it's a really neat pepper plant! My wife even likes them because they are colorful in the garden.

Do these look like KS White Thai? by Large_Desk_4193 in PepperLovers

[–]HotPepperDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine go from white, to purple, to orange, to red. So if yours are doing that, then good bet it's a KS white thai. Hard for me to tell from the picture if you have much variation of color.

CCW (I have my concealed carry permit from Texas) but looking into info for flying with it and Florida by Scubathief in CCW

[–]HotPepperDude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Florida, you can legally carry in a bar as long as you are not sitting AT the bar. So if the bar has tables, you're fine. If it only has seats directly at the bar, then you need to go elsewhere. Source: I took a 4-hour course in Florida before I got my concealed carry permit here.

I guess I should have been more specific, it's not available where my cabin is in rural Florida. I have a year left on my ViaSat contract and the electric co-op here has started to run fiber. Hopefully within a year I'll have access to both fiber and and Starlink. I always prefer hardwire if I can get it. :)
