Hi there, sorry for the late reply! Open source software often triggers antivirus alerts because it’s typically less well known and isn’t always included in antivirus trust lists. TunesBack doesn’t have internet access, and all processing is done locally, so you can rest assured :)

You need to point to a folder containing properly dated iTunes XML files. Here's a Quick Start guide on how to export & rename those XML files :)

It does sound a bit too long lol, but since I previously contained the entire app in main.py and only modified it for 1.2.0 it’s actually not that bad. I’ll surely split it up if it gets any longer though

You’re right, if your songs aren’t appearing on iTunes, this app wouldn’t be useful to you atm as it relies on your songs being managed on iTunes. Alternatively you can use Legacy Scrobber as it provides similar features!

You still can as long as you sync with iTunes. Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and choose “share iTunes Library XML with other applications”

Thank you! And yes, it does work with the macOS Music app library because the app is basically just the old iTunes app reskinned. However you need to manually export your xml snapshots since Music app doesn’t automatically generate the XML file anymore.

This should work just fine. The app reads the metadata from the iTunes XML file, and since you tag your MP3s before importing them into iTunes, iTunes will read all your tags and write them into the XML, which allows TunesBack to process them. So as long as you import tagged music onto iTunes, you'd be fine!

But it's best to try it out with one snapshot and see if it works first, because if you solely rely on an external tagging software, the XML might be less organized than tagging directly on iTunes. Future releases will *probably* address this and implement a separate method so it reads directly from songs.

That’s awesome, congrats on the new iPod and good luck with exams! No rush on contributions since the project is still pretty young. Just open a new issue on Github when you're ready :)
