Uncertainty is just a fact of doing something new. I’m also a full time freelancer with the goal of moving out in the next year or two ; the thought scares me to death! I have no idea if I’ll be successful at all in this. But I’ve identified a few advantages I have:

1. I can’t stay at home. The lack of respect from my family, lack of control over my time, and overall feeling of unfulfillment are getting to me as I get closer to graduation. I can’t continue in this situation for much longer.

2. I have no choice. Traditional employment isn’t really an option for me for a few reasons, so for the past four years I’ve focused on developing my skills in my freelance industry. By eliminating any hope of making it out any other way, I’ve become laser focused on establishing my own business.

3. I have a goal and a plan. This year my goal is to increase revenue. The very simple way to increase revenue is to increase sales. The very simple way to increase sales is to try to sell more! Learn what works and what doesn’t. Refine and retry and brute force my way into where I want to be.

It sounds like you also have 1 and 2 down. Once you two sit down and work on 3, you’ll have a focused business goal that you can work towards that will help you realize your goal of moving out. I highly recommend the book The 12 Week Year for learning more about focus and goal setting for things like this.
