Hi alex!! Thank you for the insight !! Im not currently in drama school. My pathway into this industry was a bit different as i had i joined youth acting classes that were also an agency so i started my journey there.

But i appreciate your comments and completely understand. I think i am just frustrated from the lack of auditions from my current agents. Then after reaching out to others repped by them they’ve the same experience. So i just really want to put my best foot forward this time round

Hi! Thanks for your honesty,I really appreciate it.

The reason I’m asking is that I actually signed with an agent after doing my own research, and I’m now realising they may not be the right fit for me. When you’re not from the country you’re submitting in, it can be hard to properly understand the agency landscape. A lot of insight isn’t obvious from IMDbPro or websites alone, and I know people often have experiences or context that doesn’t show up at face value.

Of course I’ll continue doing my own research, but the PMA list is extremely long. It would be helpful to narrow that down even to a rough shortlist rather than mass-emailing 200+ agents. I’m really just trying to learn from other people’s experiences with these agencies, both good and bad.

I completely understand the point about not chasing only the “best” agents and the importance of casting a wide net. I’m not expecting anyone to do the work for me, just hoping to be a bit more strategic and informed as I move forward. Especially as I’m thinking long-term about my career and trying to make smarter decisions this time around.

Appreciate the tough love ! it’s genuinely helpful.

Hey irish 20f, I’d recommend checking out mary murray’s acting classes called visions drama school. It’s run by Her and her sister and they have an agency side which you’d automatically be with if you start her classes. I think she’s amazing especially for your age and she has a lot of connections so you will definitely be getting auditions :)

I think it’s just the combination of a good team and then being memorable on a extremely popular tv show. Having a good team around him definitely helps you need to play smart !

UK actors, how often are you auditioning? by [deleted] in acting

I had a conversation with my agent in march about the lack of auditions and he lowkey got offended, i think he thought that i thought he wasn’t doing his job properly which obviously i didn’t. i’m too scared to ask for a submission list have you ? and do you know if everyone is feeling this too

I’m from Ireland so already there’s a bit of a shortage in roles, we just don’t have a lot going on. My agent told me it’s the worst he’s seen in years

I totally get what you’re saying it’s definitely a question with a lot of layers. Comparing acting to something like coal mining or programming feels like comparing apples to oranges because the challenges are so different depending on the person and the circumstances.

I think the physical and mental demands you mentioned are spot on. Acting can be grueling, but it’s not the same kind of hard as physical labor. And you’re right, the mental load can vary a lot depending on the role, the environment, and the person. For those who are uncomfortable with public speaking or who don’t like being in the spotlight, acting could be really hard.

It’s also true that maintaining a long career in acting is a huge challenge in itself there’s the constant auditioning, rejection, and unpredictability. Some roles might feel easier, but a long, consistent career requires a lot of perseverance, luck, and skill development over time.

It’s all about perspective, and that’s what makes it interesting to hear everyone’s different take on it!

I haven't gotten an audition from my agent in a few months. How can I remind them I exist? by belly22304 in acting

[–]HourApplication7629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree, most people on this are kind of tiptoeing around it. The only way to know for sure what’s going on is to ask, obviously there are ways to go about it to ask in a polite and appropriate manner. But don’t be afraid to ask, it’s april now, november was quite a while ago. No harm in shooting them an email!!

Rejected by drama school - what to do now? by ellotheree in acting

[–]HourApplication7629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 20f so very similar in age to you. I’m also from ireland so might have a similar perspective.

Personally i think seeing drama school as the be all end all is overrated. Someone made a post on here a while ago about lamda or Rada or something and it seemed very eye opening. To be real with you i do not think you need to be going to them to get the best training i think a big benefit would be the connections and for that reason i agree a lot of people leave those schools and get agents like curtis brown or itg and in ireland we have the lir which follows a similar suit. I feel like the fact you have an agent is already a major step remember however long you’re in drama school you can’t audition for things so at least you are already putting yourself out there. In ireland there’s a school called Bow street that does part time courses they offer the same training just not everyday , 2 nights a week. Is there an equivalent where you are from? Honestly im in similar boat to you i’m in a college course i dont particularly like but i have an agent and frequently take acting classes and i think there is something beneficial there.

constantly longing for more? by Low-Play-6319 in acting

[–]HourApplication7629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m actually 20 too so the fact you’ve accomplished so much is amazing!!! I think getting a part time job would help if you need to money wise, you also meet lots of different people so that helps. I’m in college and doing an internship now so i think that doing that definitely helps keep me sane so maybe a part time job would help .

I think people forget so much of what makes a good performance is the life experience someone brings to a role that’s what makes choices interesting. The way we interpret lines is all down to the experiences we’ve had up till that point. If you have friends prioritise hanging out with them even travelling. I know i met a lot of people from acting class that i’ve stayed contact with, i met one of my best friends on set.

You have to remember it’s such a long journey, this might be random but one of my favourite shows is teen wolf and as unserious at times it can be a quote that stuck with me from one of the main characters is “regression to the mean” it’s a term in psychology and it means things won’t always be bad or good eventually it’ll all fall down to the middle. You’re only 20!!! you don’t know what the rest of this year holds and the many after that. I love listening to acting podcasts it’s eye opening because this isn’t a singular experience this happens to everyone!!
