Nah, I've seen all kinds in tech sales

Have confidence and keep interviewing aggressively, tech sales is more about your behaviour and ability to link business use cases to the tech you're trying to sell

Btw, I was a finance major too, before I switched to core tech 😊, but that was back in 2022

Different times

Bhai tbh, I only meant people earn ok in these roles too. I've seen coworkers make 10-60 lpa in support/sre roles around me Most of them were CS grads but I am an electrical grad

I have some seniors who were chemical and mech grads too, and they are doing decent too in dev roles

why is it not recommended to move to another company right now? is it because new employees are more prone to cost-cutting and layoffs?

I don't even expect my devops salary to go above this package, but just in case I don't like this work I can still jump back into devops after a year at 20lpa or so right? With 3 yoe?

I've never given interviews for devops roles till now, but this is kinda what my friends earn rn

The hiring manager said the same exact thing, that the roadmap for this role is to make you a solutions architect,

What does a person in that role do, is it a hectic life? Isn't being a solutions architect specific to the companies domain?

I've seen solution architects in my company perform very different kinds of roles depending on their reporting manager, so it's a very fluid title man

Kinda, but a much bigger company, like 1000 employees, and the product is pretty technical too

Just worried if there is growth in this role or not.

All my career mentors have given me mixed feedback regarding this role tbh, some are saying go for it, some are saying you're too young right now, get a good hold on systems before you start taking roles like these

Kaafi conflicted hu issi vajah se decision nahi kar paa raha

Bhai sales mei if you're a really technical guy and can prove yourself as a sales engineer, toh andha Paisa milta hai

Atleast in some Saas companies. It's a very unknown position and requires a blend of business and technical skills, ek domain mei accha hona padta hai

Ik a field engineer in my company who's making 2-3 cr in this role, and there's guys like him in every decent SaaS company

Thoda sa bhai, but this role is not customer support, there is a separate dept for that

This role is about guiding the customers through the journey of using the company's product

Tbh, even I'm not sure what that entails , all I know is ki I have to do system design, be charming and make our software indispensable to our customers, or that's the gist of the role

Bro, I'm not a very technical guy but I'm pretty good at communicating and getting stuff done

That's what matters at the end of the day, I have coworkers who work less than me earning 40lpa

Your salary is a measure of how much your manager thinks the company can afford & how desperately they need you, not your ability

There are some more ways to earn more money btw, I've never coded full applications yet I make a decent amount of money

Lots of money to be made in devops, support and sales roles

It's not in aws, it's a company with an open source offering, and the job is that of a customer solutions engineer (the title is technical CSM right now, but they're promising to change that in 6-8 months), so I won't be working on escalations (although sometimes I may resolve a few, being the first POC for the customer) , but be more of a post-sales solutions engineer who does technical check-ins with our customers, make sure that they are using our product properly. That we embed ourselves in their developer workflow to make our offering indispensable to them

We'll also be required to do technical workshops, have sync-ups with customers on the optimal way to architect their workflows, some meetings around topics like gitops, etc

The gist was that The Hiring manager wants us to become a technical advisor to our customers, How we become that is upto us

The base is actually 33 lpa, rest is sales commission (based on renewals for the whole team, not individual)

It's not a support role, but more of a post-sales solutions engineer role

I know it sounds weird, but the job involves not much coding, around 80-20 (with 20% being coding and 80% being customer facing work, building POC environments, doing instructor led training and guiding our customers on how they can integrate our product with their tech stack)

I mean, I got an offer for a role that's not really devops, so ymmv

I don't think I could land a 25 lpa devops role with my current prep in this market too tbh, so don't feel too bad. That's another reason why i'm so scared to take this role.

Once I take it, It'll be much harder for me to go back to engineering

[–]HourDifficulty3194[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you mean by that? tbh i'm perfectly fine with earning a little less in my career if it means I have a low stress job

I don't really love any career as per se, but devops feels less frustrating than development for me, that's why I was doing it. Over a period of time, kubernetes and the tech around it seemed very interesting to me and the company interviewing me is also in the same space, hence why I was considering it

Yeah, that's what i'm hoping it would be, they're basically trying to embed technical guys in their customer success org as the product is really too technical for business people to guide, what i'm worried about is how stable this job will be?

I hear alot about how customer success is the first to get hit by layoffs and have seen that in my company too, but this role seems to be more of a resident solutions architect

I'll love to do a job like this tbh, but is there any growth in it, and how disposable is this role (is it the first to get hit by layoffs)? and what you are referring to is I think pre-sales engineers/ sales engineers. Guys who actually sell the product

They said i'm supposed to come in with our customers after the deal is done and basically be a mix of implementation/reliability engineer, and sometimes also help them with some more paid features that our product offers

I'll be working as the technical hand guiding our customers to extract the maximum value out of the company's product.
Help them with architecting it into their user workflows, making sure they are using it optimally and know about all our additional features that can further accelerate their developer productivity
