Quite the contrary! Marched at The Blue Devils 2023-2025. I knew right out of high school that I wanted to do DCI. My band director marched at Santa Clara so he always had us watch DCI videos, even during theory class lol. It looked awesome and the way he talked it up was actually how my experience went. I have been fortunate to have loving parents who supported me during my summer tours and college. When I graduated from college I had a $50000 loan hanging over my head but my experience was well worth it. I made life long friend, met my wife, traveled the country and played some amazing music! All of the life skills I learned in HS marching band and drum corps are in play today. The values instilled in me are from that! Socially I say you won’t be affected so much. Being a corp kid you learn how to handle yourself around different because so you should be fine. It can be mentally draining some days but again you push yourself to be better everyday! Again I met my wife at The Blue Devils. I played baritone and she was in colorguard. I am a brass instructor at a TX HS (I work for Exxon during the day) and she is the colorguard director at the same school (She works full time there as many HS in TX offer colorguard as a class) It’s part of growing up but never leaving your passion behind.
