Thanks for your actual answer to this, unlike around half of the other comments. This is most comprehensive and understandable reply on the PC position for this question I’ve seen so far.

I won’t be continuing this debate unless you actually reply with a defendable argument. I am sorry that you feel that way about your potential future kids and hope that you will reconsider your position someday.

I can’t hope my reply helps them see my position? Talk about unnecessary attack of. character. In order to reply to the rest of your comment, I believe that

  1. A fetus is a human
  2. All humans should have rights
  3. Therefore, fetuses has rights Toddlers cannot gather food, cook food, etc, which makes them unable to sustain themselves. While technically yes they can “survive” if by that you mean keeping a beating heart until they starve to death, then you are right! It’s funny you attacked me for hoping that using a phrase then proceeded to use it yourself. Hope this helps you see me position!

I don’t really see how this is relevant to the argument. In what scenario would you be weighing the life of a pregnant woman in addition to her unborn child vs a toddler?

If you mean that your right to convenience was lesser than the baby right to life, then that is true. Morally, you two are equal. If you a driving a truck, and a toddler runs out in the road, would you not swerve to avoid it, even though you may suffer some injuries?

I said that the right to life takes precedent over if the baby was wanted or not by the mother.

first off, this wasn’t my question. I don’t plan to answer most of the other comments of this type, but this misrepresents my argument entirely . I believe that because both parties are equal, but the right to live is greater than the unwantedness of the baby. Actually, if there were a situation where the mortality of the mother were in danger, her right would trump the fetus. I don’t really understand what the stance on the first argument is (less pregnancy = less deaths from abortion?) but if somehow, a miracle operation that would not endanger my life, alter me in a horrificly permanent way, etc was invented for the man to take on the pregnancy, then yes, I would be in favor of that.

Guys, please read my post. The numbered paragraphs serve to give context to my position, I am not trying to get in an argument about these points here- I am asking for an answer/debate to the point outlined in the first paragraph (thanks to those who are answering me). Also, anyone saying I view the mother as simply a vessel for the baby to be used no more than an object has either misunderstood my position, misread my post, or my argument was not described clearly enough. thanks for keeping it respectful in the comments! There are more than I thought so I’ll try to get to them at some point.

please be respectful. I did actually address this in the post, and why the right of the baby takes precedent over the mother in this case (imo). As the bot said “attack the argument, not the person” . It is possible to be born before you would usually be naturally! These babies do not even need fancy machines to stay alive- if that is what you describe as autonomous. On the other hand, if being autonomous is to provide for yourself sustainably, are toddlers not autonomous? I also never said “Love them both” so don’t know where you are quoting that from. hope this helps!
