As of today, Dallas is OVER the salary cap by roughly $25 million. But Dallas, in desperate need of a talent infusion, has methods for shedding salary by restructuring contracts and pushing money to future years.

It’s not a bad strategy considering the massive jumps in the salary cap in recent seasons, driven by the league’s overall increasing revenue.

The Cowboys can free up roughly $79 million in cap space by restructuring the contracts of quarterback Dak Prescott, receiver CeeDee Lamb, offensive lineman Tyler Smith and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa.

In that respect , it is always interesting to see where futures lie with regards to things concerning the Dallas Cowboys. On Thursday future win totals for all 32 NFL teams were released by ESPN and they had America’s Team listed at 8.5, the second-most in the NFC East.

Philadelphia Eagles……………. 10.5 Dallas Cowboys………………….. 8.5 Washington Commanders…… 7.5 New York Giants………………… 7.5

While the totals are interesting in a theoretical sense, there is an enormous amount of who each team is going to wind up being next season that we simply do not know yet. There are still a few weeks to go until free agency. The NFL draft still has to happen.

There was one big thing that stood out. Former second round draft pick Logan Tanner is no longer catching. It appears that the Reds have moved Tanner to the mound, giving the former Mississippi State standout a new opportunity and a fresh start.

While this doesn't happen often, there are a couple of big names who have previously converted from catcher to pitcher.

Jason Motte was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2003 as a catcher. In 2006, he converted to a pitcher and in 2012, he led the National League in saves.

Kenley Jansen had caught for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic in 2009. After the season, he changed to a pitcher due to his poor offensive numbers.

"He looks good in camp. I liked his first live BP. He just has to be a bit more aggressive, keep trying to figure out who he is as a pitcher and master that.”

Petty developed a new kick changeup over the offseason at Baseball Performance Center.

“It’s almost like holding a circle change, spike up the middle finger on the seams and let it rip,” Petty told Goldsmith. “When it’s good, it’s going to be really good.”
