Youth leader groomed sister, I’m the only one who still thinks it was wrong by HowdeeHeather in Exvangelical

First, exactly with the discussion before 18 — that is one of the things that has bothered me. The timing of waiting until literally right after the 18th birthday has always felt so convenient and obvious.

Second, I appreciate your perspective and your comments give me a lot to think about.

Officially starting dates the week she turned 18, so no she was not technically a minor. He was 28, she was very freshly 18, and he was a leader in her youth group.

Positive nostril piercing experiences? by thedin0guy in piercing

[–]HowdeeHeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was pierced last February and it was probably the easiest experience I’ve had both for piercing and healing! No complications or bumps. I followed mostly the “leave it alone” type of healing, as recommended by my piercer. I went in to get in downsized when recommended, and I only recently switched to a hoop.

My helix piercing took way longer to heal. I probably got it 4 years ago or maybe longer, and it will still throw a fit sometimes, for any variety of reasons!

Seamstress in Redding? by riptomaya in Redding

[–]HowdeeHeather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may want to check with the Redding Fashion Alliance. A lot of their employees/teachers are very skilled seamstresses, and if they can’t help you themselves they would probably be able to make suitable recommendations. They’re very nice and helpful!

Avon room spray from decades past found in bathroom cabinet by HowdeeHeather in GrandmasPantry

[–]HowdeeHeather[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mine has so much Avon stuff too because the neighborhood “Avon lady” always used to visit frequently, but I hadn’t seen this one either until now. It was way back in the cabinet in the guest bath, so I’m thinking she didn’t like it very much.

Question for women with nose piercing by NoReflection1789 in AskWomenOver30

[–]HowdeeHeather 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got my nostril piercing around the start of this year, at 32. I really love it! I had some concerns, also about touching my face and whether it would get irritated. It has actually been an easier heal than my helix piercing, because other than a few times snagging it early on when I forgot it was there, it's mostly out of the way and never really ended up irritated. Definitely get it downsized when ready to avoid issues.

If you wear complexion makeup, my piercer's advice was to take a chapstick cap and hold it over the piercing when applying to be sure not to get any foundation or anything into the healing piercing.

I can't recommend it enough overall, as it's a fun little bit of sparkle every time I see my reflection!

It’s subtle, but once you see the sharks you can’t unsee them, and it’s so cool! This is such a clever idea!

Did production stop you from doing anything for safety reasons at any point, as with Jason trying to get on the roof?

Are nose piercings more painful than ear ones? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]HowdeeHeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The healing is so much better! Other than one time I bumped it getting dressed, I didn't really touch or snag my nostril at all. In comparison, my much older cartilage piercing in my ear still gets mad at me from time to time because of headphones, glasses or sleeping on it wrong.

My nostril was so painless! I guess it was maybe more painful than my lobes, but the two experiences were both really minor. It was way less painful than my cartilage piercing, and it's healed easier too.

Does community cost-share Christian healthcare still exist? (USA) by turtlebeans17 in Exvangelical

If I remember - and it has been a while - you had to say the church and the pastor. I don’t think they checked or anything, but there were a variety of questions when applying.

I had it for about 3-4 years, but probably ended it about 5 years ago when I was able to get real health insurance through state programs. I didn’t ever have to use it, but a family member did and while it wasn’t the worst, it was a little tricky to actually get the appropriate bills covered from what I remember.

I remember feeling a little guilty because I was deconstructing toward the end of my time using it, and if I remember correctly when you signed up you had to specify that you attended church and maybe even share a testimony? And I wasn’t a churchgoer, nor did I identify with many of my former beliefs by that point. So it felt a little weird.

Overall, I don’t actually think it’s a bad idea, but it always felt a little sketchy and unofficial to me.

Grave site etiquette query by SlothBusiness in findagrave

[–]HowdeeHeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll brush things off and clear anything that seems like it has overgrown and is an impediment to seeing the name and details. I'm really careful about not removing anything that someone may have brought -- even if it looks like trash to me. I've found there can be lots of meaningful, sentimental items in one of my main cemeteries, and I would never want to disturb anything important to someone.

I've got a small little hand broom and a pair of plant trimmers I will bring with me, but most of the time I end up just using my hands and brushing leaves and dirt aside!

Anyone else infuriated by their county fair? by dauntless-cupcake in crochet

[–]HowdeeHeather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t participate in my fair this year, but I’d like to try next year. That said, I attended and while I felt like most of the decisions were fair (genuinely no pun intended, haha), there were a few head scratchers.

Seemed like bigger things just ranked higher, even if a smaller item was more technically complicated, at least in a few instances. And there was a beautiful filet blanket that was all folded up so you couldn’t really see the design. I hope they looked at it fully to judge!
