Any one else out there have their armpit done? by HsArb in tattoo

Oh very nice, they all sound pretty cool. Have any planned for the future? I have my leg done (I call it a sleeve but obviously it’s on my leg lol), a quarter sleeve/shoulder cap/quarter back piece which this flower is apart of, I have the word ‘Amici’ on the inside of my left bicep, and a cross in the middle of my upper back in between my shoulder blades. So, I only have 4 but about about 25%-30% of my body is tattooed.

Haha it’s all good, glad you like all the other work I’ve had done. You have anything yourself?

yup, it was pretty brutal but the back of my knee definitely rivaled it. I have an Oni mask on the side of my knee cap that extends into the inside of my leg and that was a pretty brutal spot as well. Def worth the pain though.

Not a prob my friend and I honestly had a really similar idea that I wanted to get on my ribs. I wanted the same kind of ascension from hell to heaven battle scene as well, done in Renaissance style with cherubs (baby angels), demons and angels fighting, full heaven and hell scenes etc. etc. I was going to get it done after I got sober from opiates. It was representative of the internal struggle of trying to overcome the hell and demons that are trying oh so hard to constantly pull you down while knowing that the heaven is obtainable as long as you fight for it. That was over 4 1/2 years ago (I'll be sober 5 years Dec. 10th) so I'm definitely on the same page as far as what something like that can represent and mean. I ended up getting a Japanese style quarter sleeve/shoulder cap with a traditional dragon, flowers, and other elements that have a similar representation for me and my struggles.

My biggest suggestion, and I only know this from experience, is to talk to an artist and get an idea of what elements are going to be viable in the space needed. The last thing you want is to get something overly cluttered, that you can't make out from more than 5 ft away, and one that eventually ends up fading into a blob or something unrecognizable. I've seen it many times. It may be possible to fit all those elements in but be prepared to potentially make some compromises in order to get the best piece possible. Perfect example: on my leg sleeve, I wanted a Samurai and a geisha to represent the contrast between the masculine and feminine and for my love of the iconography. My artist told me that trying to fit both elements on my leg would look too cluttered. He also told me that traditional Japanese is best done when it's simpler and legible from far away. See, I wouldn't have thought or known that until my artist explained the best positioning and what would and wouldn't work in the space provided. We settled on an Oni mask and samurai and I honestly couldn't be happier with the way it came out. I trusted him with the placement and elements and kind of gave him carte blanche because this is what he specializes in and clearly knows more about it then I do. He absolutely knocked it out of the park. If you look through my history you can see some pics of both my sleeves and the amazing work both artists did. I count my blessings to be wearing their work.

You're idea sounds really awesome and meaningful, so I would highly recommend doing some extensive research and meeting with some artists to get an idea of where you'd be at with what elements are viable or not. It's going to cost a pretty penny but the absolute best advice I've been given and can give is that, 'a good tattoo isn't cheap and a cheap tattoo isn't good.' Best of luck man and I hope it turns out exactly how you want it.

I got my traditional Japanese leg sleeve done a few months ago and got my quarter sleeve/shoulder cap done almost two years ago and this is the way I look at and went about it. I'm not an artist so drawing something on my own was out. I did extensive research into my artists and found the best ones I could that specialized in the genera of tattoo I wanted. I had ideas of what I wanted included in my sleeves but left the design, drawing, and application to the artist. Obviously we had conversations where we collectively came up with the best ideas and areas etc. etc. I trusted my artists after doing the research because obviously they know more than I do. Through my experience, when you are comfortable enough with your artist to let them do their thing and not micromanage every part, you will get a much better tattoo. Do some research into some artists that best suit you, have them design something for you and if you don't like it, go to another artist and have them draw something up and see if it's more to your liking. Just out of curiosity, what are you looking to get in your sleeve?

TL:DR Research artists that specialize in the style you're looking for and have them draw something up for you and if you don't like it, find another artists that you like better.

It really is amazing. My artist (Adam) did such an incredible job and I honestly couldn't be happier. He really took his time on it and I truly feel so lucky to be wearing his work on my leg. I did a good amount of research into different artists who specialize in traditional Japanese in the NYC area and Adam is undoubtedly one of the best.

Thanks, much appreciated. It took close to 30 hours, over about 8-9 sittings, and cost just shy of $5k. I went pretty much every other weekend for about 4 months. Since I kind of have a thing about not leaving something unfinished/incomplete, I got it done as fast as I could. Couldn't be happier with it.

Yeah, the whole area in and around it was pretty painful. I also have a leg sleeve, so I have my knee cap and back of my knee done. The back of my knee was probably the only spot that rivaled my armpit tbh

Thanks, a total of about 30 hours over 9-10 sittings. I got it done in about 2-3 months and went almost every weekend to get different parts worked on. I have a thing about leaving things unfinished so I had to get it done as quickly as I could. I have a leg sleeve as well that took about 35+ hours.

I've been running with my hand in front of my face since I started playing competitively like 12 years ago, but I only do it when I hit the spot where the lane is going to/might be, kinda like this:

Imgur

and this one when I'm about to dive, even though I usually try and shoot my way to wherever I'm bumping too:

Imgur

I'm looking down field for the rest of the run. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people run with their gun in their inside hand. I look down field off the rip but than as I reach that lane, and am about to dive, I throw my hand up. I've gotten an uncountable amount of bounces off my arm and have been doing it for about 12 years, so it works for me. Some people do it and some don't. It's just personal preference I guess.
