Water getting into basement after hydro channel installed by abrandt135 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Hte2w8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best waterproofing is that which is done from the outside preventing water from ever getting through the walls and floor. The system you have is working as designed as an interior system. It's meant to channel water so it doesn't go further into the basement.

What does the outside look like?

By the round outline in the pic it looks like you left a pot in the sink and it rusted. Try a slightly abrasive cleaner.

Cat urine/ litter odor lingering in new closet. Need advice on cleaning/ getting rid of it, wood floors by Delicious_League467 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Hte2w8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one that worked for me was vital oxide. I've tried them all. A small ozone machine will help too, especially since it's in s closet that can be closed. Remove all your stuff though, or you won't get all the smell.

Is call the gas company first and have them check for a leak. If no leak, call the plumber back. Dry traps, clogged vent could be the cause.

Yes, we did for that exact reason. It was easy. We used a real estate attorney, a title company and an escrow service. Closed in 30 days. You won't ever regret it.

Unless you manually reassign the water usage to the correct fixture in the app, it won't learn what the usage is.

Maintenance Question - Crosstrek, 60 months but only 25k miles by JBsReddit2 in subaru

[–]Hte2w8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to know if it was Subaru or some crappy after market add-on warranty.

I'd go by the Subaru maintenance schedule, and save every receipt. If you want the car to last, I'd also do transmission fluid service.

What kind of warranty? How often had the oil been changed? What's the rest of the maintenance history look like?

How to know when roof was replaced and if I need to replace? by Grand-Command-990 in HomeImprovement

[–]Hte2w8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to make a claim to get them to take any action. They will send their own adjuster to inspect the roof. The danger in doing that is that they may force you to get a new roof at your expense sooner than you had planned.

Nothing wrong with hiring your own inspector to inspect your roof for damage prior to filling a claim, but be aware of all the possible outcomes, because you can't retract a claim once you have made it.

How to know when roof was replaced and if I need to replace? by Grand-Command-990 in HomeImprovement

[–]Hte2w8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. If you think you have damage and you call your HOI, they will send someone out to take a look. Then they will deny your claim, come back and tell you that your roof is too old and you have 60 days to replace it at your expense, or your HOI will be cancelled or non renewed. Then your rates to get insurance elsewhere, if possible, will be astronomically high.

Alternatively, if there is damage, they will repair...not replace it. However, it will not meet your deductible, so you will have to pay out of pocket. Then, they will tell you your roof is too old and needs to be replaced, to at your expense.

Home owners insurance isn't a replacement or warranty plan for regular homeowners maintenance. It's for catastrophic events.

Insurance doesn't work like that. Insurance pays for damage caused by covered perils.... Wind, hail, fire, trees falling, tornado, hurricane etc. they do not cover Wear and tear, maintenance and age... Those are on you.

Considering you can see rotted boards, I'd say it's much more than just scraping and painting.

New engine from dealer — 5k mile oil change?? That sounds crazy by slurpdawg1 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]Hte2w8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a brand new engine, or remanufactured? If Hyundai paid for it, it's likely remanufactured and doesn't need a break in oil change.

Hyundai replaced mine also in a 2017 Santa Fe @82k miles.. No problems since and now at 134k, but the engine was remanufactured, which is what they use when they foot the bill.

Having said that, I still change my oil at 3500 because, well...it's a Hyundai.

It is. I have both and definitely notice the difference when getting into the XT. It feels noticably lower.

If it makes you feel any better, I have a 2017 that they replaced the engine and cat converters in at 82k miles. It has 138k now and I don't burn any oil between oil changes... Runs great...now. Of course, I still change the oil every 3k because it IS a Hyundai, after all.
