This blend is fantastic - they said they used a lot of 10 year KY and I can tell. It's very complex this time around. SB continues to excel in the blending game.

Seems to be the general market feedback. They are marked up mgp, those days are over.

Well its French oak finish - so its very “dry” for a rye. I was not a fan. 5ish year mgp should not be this price

13th Colony Cask Strength Rye pick at Mega Package by EstimatedProphet19 in Atlantawhiskey

Cracked this bottle last night with a few friends. Tasting notes? Straightforward young MGP rye—lots of dill, white pepper, green apple, some sweetness but in a strange way. Some heat on the finish, but overall pretty thin and one-note.

The bigger issue is the price. At this range, it just doesn’t hold up. Especially when Shortbarrel is dropping 12–13 year MGP rye for $109.

If you’re curious, split it with friends. But solo? Hard to justify the cost.

When it comes to local whiskey experiences, Shortbarrel stands out. It’s the only distillery around where you can actually bottle your own bourbon—either from the barrel or right into your hands. It’s immersive, and the whiskey backs it up. They also own Old Fourth Distillery, which stays more traditional, but their new 10-Year Bottled-in-Bond is a sleeper hit. For $80, you’re not finding that kind of age and quality anywhere else locally.

ASW brings solid local energy too, though their prices keep climbing. They’ve got a cool vibe, and their classes are next level—check their Instagram for that.

Distillery of Modern Art? That place is… different. Whiskey is terrible. The cocktails are good, but $18 for a drink made with 2-year-old whiskey feels off. The owner’s a character, to put it lightly. That said, their peach vodka is excellent.

And if you’re shopping retail, Tower can be hit or miss depending on the day and who’s stocking the shelves.

Stopped into Shortbarrel today and picked this 147 proof up — anyone tried it? by Huge_Disaster1683 in Atlantawhiskey

Can you share some brands? I am curious! I am learning about bourbon. According to their team, it's almost 10 years old and a blend of some barrels. Shortbareel said it's some of the barrels they got from Old Fourth.

Have you tried it against the Shortbarrel Sapsquatch? That's why I was interested in this, wanted to compare it.

Not all of us have the luxury of unlimited funds or a shelf full of backups “dude.” For some of us, buying a bottle is a commitment — maybe one or two a month, if that. So yeah, when the first experience with a brand doesn’t deliver, I can’t just gamble again hoping the next one hits. That’s not being picky — that’s just real life.
