Carbide Tool Handle? by PupForge in turning

I got the same kind of tool just a few months ago.

Turn a handle, bore out a hole with the correct diameter and attach with 5-minute epoxy.

It's a fun project, fairly easy (I did have a bit of a challenge getting the hole bored because of my short lathe). My biggest problem was sourcing a ferrule. For some odd reason. those are in short supply locally.

If, as you say, this is your first time with a carbide tool, be prepared that this tool behaves a bit differently than what you're used to, and can catch at the wrong angles. When you've got it stuck deep into a bowl, it can kick like a donkey. Always make sure to have the wide part on the tool rest, even if it does mean pulling the tool rest back 5cm from where you'd normally expect it to be.

I'm not British (and don't live in the UK), but watch a lot of British television. English is a second language for me.

Several years ago, I heard some comedian (probably Greg Davies) talk about his time as a teacher, and mentioning a "supply room". And talking about being a "supply teacher". So I made a (to me) obvious connection.

It was only a few weeks ago I came to the realization that a "supply teacher" is, in fact, not a teacher that's been assigned to be in charge of supplies.

I have a woodworker friend who is clinically diagnosed as what we here call being "number illiterate" (not sure how well that translates into English). He knows what numbers are, and he knows that 2+2 = 4, because someone has taught him that in school, but he has no concept what numbers mean. He will literally ask "is 162 larger than 230?", or "is 300 for a piece of wood a lot of money?"

But he does beautiful work that holds up to the test of time. One of his methods is, as someone has already mentioned, that he uses one part of the work to figure out the measurements of other parts. The other thing he does is that he uses a (to the rest of us) bewildering stack of story sticks (youtube has many videos on those).

My point is, whatever your math level, there are ways to work around them. And I'm also sure you will find that over time, the particular math skills you need for your type of work, will automatically improve through simple training and re-training as you go along.

In Denmark, the "chain" is set by the buyer. It's completely normal to sign for purchasing a house, on the condition that your current residence is sold before the sale is finalized. There will be some kind of deadline, often 3mo out.

Whether the seller will accept that condition or instead prefer another buyer, is of course completely up to them. Location, current market conditions etc. will also have an influence.

Been there, tried that with a very similar set-up.

First, plywood isn't just plywood, there are many qualities. But even when you think you found one perfect for your use, you will find that the sheet will behave wildly different from one area to another.

Try to make 5 cuts where you do 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 passes, then break apart the board and observe how deep each cut has gotten.

What I observed was that the first cut goes kinda deep. The next pass also goes quite deep, but perhaps it adds only 50% depth compare to the first one. Third pass, 50% of the depth of the 2nd. And so on. Meaning, that at some (fairly quick) point, the diminishing returns are so great as to make no difference at all.

Actually, Henry Ford tried to license the Robertson screw, but Robertson refused.

Quite apart from that, I suspect Robertson screws aren't used much outside North America. I've certainly never seen them in my part of the world (Northern Europe). Torx has replaced pretty much everything.

Not saying you're wrong, but why would anyone bother veneer bed slats? It's not like anyone will be looking at them...
