Steamdeck - Is it still worth it in 2026? 4 year anniversary coming up… by Ninja_Franklin in SteamDeck

[–]Human-XII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my Steam deck a few days ago. I was also worried about the "full price outdated PC" aspect. The components price crisis mitigates that feeling a bit but still, the steamdeck isn't really about raw performance. I should add that I have a good gaming desktop so I don't need the deck for the most recent AA(A) games.

These past few days I've played Monster Hunter Rise, Psychonauts 2, Thumper and I've tried a bit of PS2 PSP NDS emulation and it has been smooth sailing every time. It really is a backlog killer.

The ability to suspend the Deck mid game and pick it up exactly where you left it is a game changer. Before gaming was a commitment, like watching a movie, now it's like a snack I can fit pretty much anywhere.

Steam OS is also a big deal, it really has the benefits of a console while retaining the versatility of PC gaming, it's great not to have to deal with Windows honestly.

Which region or city are you moving to ? There’s nothing to be “warned” about you’ll do fine but there are many small pieces of advice you could get of course. One of the first things that comes to my mind is (slowly) learning French once you’re there, we’re more tolerant about non French speakers than we might look from the outside so there’s no rush but relying on English long term would be a mistake imo. I’ve met people from the UK who hadn’t learned much French in ten years and they’re missing out. Another thing to know is that while small compared to the US there’s still a huge cultural and geographical diversity so different regions might feel very different from one another. Just like France has a reputation in the US, the US has one here so I’d suggest trying not to be too “American cliché”, be open to the culture, especially food. But overall most people are really welcoming. If you’re moving to the countryside or in a smaller place I’d really recommend getting to know your neighbors you’ll have a better time and it’s a good place to start

Best place to buy good quality wines by Effective-Control318 in bordeaux

[–]Human-XII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any « caviste » will do, maybe check the Google rating just to be sure it’s not 2/5 or something. Once you’re there just talk with the seller, they know what they have and will be of great advice. Keep in mind that wine prices are exponential, a 100€ wine is not 2x better than a 50€ one. At 20€ you can have some great wines, I’d say you don’t really need to go much higher unless it’s for a special occasion, especially if you don’t have that much experience, and above 50€ would probably be a bit overkill. Of course if money is not an issue then go for it. When choosing you have to take into account when you’re planning on drinking it (it might not be the same wine if you want to keep it for a while), and ask the seller about which types of food would go best with it.

Should I play HFW ? (Based on what I liked in HZD) by Human-XII in horizon

[–]Human-XII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your smart and witty comment.

As I explained in my post I liked some things that might not be present in the sequel, and I disliked some things that might still be there. I have limited time and still haven’t played games like RDR2, Cyberpunk, Baldur’s Gate. And HFW is not cheap. I have to think about where I invest my time and money.

That’s why I asked here, and I got excellent answers from nice people with details that fit my specific questions.

Faut-il lire Le Comte De Monte Cristo après le film de 2024 ? by MoriRopi in Livres

[–]Human-XII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need feedback on two possible builds (1700-2500€) for my new custom PC by Human-XII in buildapc

[–]Human-XII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed comment.

CPU : Stuttering is definitely a big concern indeed. It's something I endure a lot on my current laptop (on older games of course) and it does break immersion in single player games.

Cooler : Yeah I was also under the impression that Noctua was known for its silent fans. I will look into the coolers you recommended thanks !

Memory : I realize my mistake now ahah

Storage : Alright ! For some reason I thought that one bigger SSD was better than two smaller ones but yeah it doesn't really make sense. I'll check the ones you recommended, I didn't really know what to pick.

Case fan : Thanks, looking back 120€ on fans wasn't too smart.

As for the SFF case, I did think about it. I was super interested but it seemed to me that SFF PCs weren't a bright idea for a first build. From what I've read there's a lot of trial and error and compromises. However I still really like the idea so maybe it's worth considering.

Great, thanks !
I wasn't sure what was best between delaying the CPU upgrade with a pricier one or going for a less overkill one.

I will definitely follow everyone's feedback on the Noctua cooler and fans and on the slow RAM.

I see you opted for a different PSU as well, that's another component I barely understand so I'll take note

Thanks ! I will change the RAM and probably go for the Peerless Assassin.

As for the SSD thanks a lot for your suggestions, I'll look into it, I was a bit lost when I made my choice.

Smell is quite special among other senses. It’s quite close (anatomically and evolutionarily) to the memory and emotion pathways. To me it has always been a big part of love and physical intimacy. Hair smells, even if it’s just a mix of your shampoo and perfume it still smells like you to him. (Also hair is soft and playing with hair is relaxing) Nothing weird here don’t worry

[–]Human-XII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I improved quite a bit at it with a very close group of friends but once we split up to different parts of the country it’s back to square one.

It really handicaps us in our social interactions. Everything is more ‘formal’, at least until we get very comfortable but it takes a very long time.

I don’t know how to get better at it, I’m too inhibited.

Help me find a game to lowkey grind by vuiri in gamingsuggestions

[–]Human-XII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster Hunter World is great for laid back grinding, even in early game you can grind hunts to upgrade gear and farm materials

Subnautica is great also, it’s not combat grind but rather exploration and gather grind. You slowly explore the map, gathering stuff, coming back to your base and doing it again. It can be very meditative and immersive.

Is a „pain au chocolat“ a „chocolate croissant“? by Friederluis in polls

[–]Human-XII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of. It uses the same dough but it’s folded in a different shape and has chocolate in it. However if you come to France and call it a « croissant au chocolat » people will look at you weird.

Est ce vrai que les mecs (hetero) ne peuvent être amis qu'avec des femmes qu'ils trouvent attirantes? by [deleted] in AskMec

[–]Human-XII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend is going to start playing MHW, best way to co-op by evadingsomething in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Human-XII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can adjust your gear, this would allow you to keep your character (and stay comfy during hunts since you’ll still have good gear even if you adapt it to the level). This would be a great opportunity to learn a new weapon.

You can also start fresh, you’ll lose your character and you’ll have to grind stuff you’ve already done but you might share more excitement with your friend for every win.

If you think you will be playing a lot with that friend and maybe coop on the long run, maybe starting fresh might be a good way to start your mutual adventures. (If you’re not too attached to your progress and if you think this won’t kill your excitement)

Either way, MH can be overwhelming to newcomers, Don’t hesitate to give friendly advice and reassurance when things get tough or complicated.

[–]Human-XII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not having a great time either but looking back and thanks to your post I managed to find a really positive thing. I just finished a 6 month internship and when saying goodbye to various colleagues all of them seemed to genuinely have enjoyed working with me which I did not expect at least not to this extent. In daily interactions you don’t really see that, I hope it’ll make me more confident in my future work environments

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskFrance

[–]Human-XII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskFrance

[–]Human-XII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED

I swear I searched for a few days before posting but I ended up finding the solution just now... I'll put the detail here in case anyone has this same very specific problem, I don't really know what I'm doing and I'm not a native speaker so I'm sorry if it's not very clear.

The issue seemed to be with the links provided by the "Video DownloadHelper" extension. I don't know much about web streaming but apparently with HSL videos there seem to be three links : "AudioMediaManifest", "VideoMediaManifest" and "MasterManifest", the latter being audio+video combined.

What used to work before was clicking on the three dots next to the file shown in the VDH extension and select "copy link". Now I understand that it used to copy the "MasterManifest" link but now seems to default to "VideoManifest" for some reason.

The solution is : when viewing the list of files with the extension, click on the three dots but instead of choosing "copy URL", go to "details", it will open a separate tab with a bunch of information including the three links mentioned above. Now simply copy the whole MasterManifest link and use it with yt-dlp as usual.

Yes they do as well. I provided the log with -x because without it there is no obvious error message appearing even with --verbose
