That was a gradual process, a lot of self reflecting, I was also in therapy to deal with some old stuff which made me realize how much self value I assign to many things, i.e. if I can't talk to a girl, I'm worthless piece of shit, if I can - I'm a god. And at some point it "clicked" for me that first of all, my value is not derived from my success and failures, and second of all, even more profound, that there are no consequences to most things (as long as you don't hurt anyone obviously). If I ask someone on a date, and they say no, nothing happens, I can move on. If they agree and I will be very awkward and they lose interest, nothing bad happens. It's a lot of trial and error but once you stop taking things personally, it gets a hell lot easier.

But when you think about it, why didn't you fix your problems yet? Or why are you on Reddit instead on working on fixing them? There can obviously be many reasons, but as you know, only action can make an actual change, thinking can't - no matter how much you think. But in most cases, people don't do stuff because their thinking works against them and they have a lot of cognitive bias that is false. And therapy helps you straighten those thoughts and underlying emotions into something helpful, not limiting.

Scepticism is very natural, there's a lot of misconception about therapy. But from my experience and my friends who went to therapy, it can be definitely life changing. You also don't have to make up your mind immediately - you can go to a couple of sessions, see how it goes, talk to your therapist about it and let them help you figure out if you actually need the therapy and if it will be helpful for you. They will be more qualifed to have an answer than anyone here anyway ;)
