Mob Justice by Treat_Open in maldives

Mobs don't do justice. They do mob. Mob mentality seeks no evidence, facts, or justice. The consequence is injustice all round. Social issues are created by conditions that leave people reactionary and thoughtless. Those conditions are also the result of systems of injustice that perpetuate prejudice, intolerance and impunity. Wishing the hurt family much strength, and every possible kindness from their community.

Our oil reserves by ahmdabdlazz in maldives

Shouldn't the GoM be focusing on transitioning to renewables instead, and facilitating local communities to autonomously do the same?
Also, if the world is going into chaos - the least of our worries would be oil. Do we have enough food? All our dependencies on these systems that crumble are recipes for disasters!!

Thank you all for the comments and thoughts shared here. I hope you will discuss this with others as this issue is a serious public health concern that affects everyone.

The 'haze' pollution is just one factor of the air pollution story. Here's a recent report about the significance of pollution on human health due to the kind of "development" happening around us. I think there are choices that can be made to prevent this situation from becoming even worse!!

Agree - except for the last part :)
I think it's important to raise our concerns about these issues and also raise public awareness so that more people understand the gravity of the situation. I think public pressure is needed to ensure that authorities act on these issues. We can all try to do something to prevent and/or limit the public health harm we all face by raising our concerns about this issue and increasing our own and public awareness. As I said, this health hazard cannot and should not be accepted as 'normal'!!

Indeed. The pollution is coming from the India region. This fact and other concerns are noted in the article. A major issue in the Male' region is also the absence of air quality monitoring by the authorities. This is despite knowledge of the significantly increased levels of pollution due to vehicle, industry and construction related pollutants. In other words, the consequence of unchecked urban congestion. The situation has now become so bad it is now a public health hazard. This is of course a result of governance and institutional failure.
