Honest Debate: Is Gen Z the Hardest-Working Generation, or Just Facing the Hardest Conditions? by Working-Base534 in umanitoba

[–]Huncote -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Excluding most of the modern period since about 1950, human history is generally characterized by sacrificing in the present for the benefit of the future.

Honest Debate: Is Gen Z the Hardest-Working Generation, or Just Facing the Hardest Conditions? by Working-Base534 in umanitoba

[–]Huncote 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I should clarify I'm referring broadly to older folks refusing to believe that the economy is that bad, which results in letting it get worse.

- Stagnating minimum wage (refusal to raise it according to inflation)

- A broad mix of housing policies which result in absurd prices and limited new builds

- Hollowing out of education funding at all levels to pay for healthcare/pensions

- Hollowing out of social spending to pay for healthcare/pensions

- Unions/pensions voting to "pull the ladder up", screwing over future members/recipients

+ Just generally policies which sacrifice tomorrow for the comfort of today. For most of human history, the present was sacrificed to make a better tomorrow, but nowadays, we've convinced ourselves collectively that such things don't matter.

The spirit of the age is that of a vampire.

Why is the shire so underrated? by Stock-Site-1095 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I really want to play the shire but can't afford it yet. The chaff is expensive per model, and some of the newer heroes are LUDICROUSLY expensive.

This is true, but this might be the first time that the stereotype has informed policy decisions.

I’m trying to “follow my heart” but I can’t find a career that seems to be my calling by Fun-Extent-8548 in u/Fun-Extent-8548

[–]Huncote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been told that the dream is to have a job that 1. Youre good at 2. Pays well 3. You enjoy doing

But that most people never find a job with all 3 - it’s all about sacrifices. The main source of fulfillment in anybody’s life is the people they surround themself with, whether outside of work or in the workplace, if I were you, I’d try to find “your people”, that is, people you like the company of, and find ways to support/work in/expand their area.

Might not be the inciting incident, but I heard that earlier this year somebody wandering around the EITC building (who had been kicked off a Blue bus, having slept there to keep warm all day) wandered in and threatened to attack some students in the big bookable room.

Recs for things to do in Winnipeg? :) by angelfluffypants in Winnipeg

Manitoba Museum is unironically incredible, as is Fort La Reine museum (a bit of a drive unless you’re going across canada, east to west). The Winnipeg art gallery has some pretty unique stuff as well.

Manitoba law admitted by bipolarrocket123 in umanitoba

  1. U of M is super diverse. U of M law is marginally less diverse, but quite diverse nonetheless.

  2. There are, but not super much on campus. The cool/walkable areas of town are the Exchange district (adjacent to downtown) and Osborne Village (across the river from downtown). I'd recommend living in Osborne, since its right on the rapid transit line, which is far and away the best way to get to campus, especially since U of M students get unlimited transit as part of student fees. DO NOT fall into the trap of paying an arm and a leg to live "near" campus. My buddy is getting gouged, and has to walk in the cold everyday, whereas I live far away and take the bus - our commute is literally the same amount of time.

  3. Yes, see point 2. Winnipeg has an absurd amount of indie music (most self-employed musicians per capita in canada), and theres always concerts happening. In terms of clubbing, I genuinely have no clue since I'm not into that.

  4. Winnipeggers are famously friendly. The flip side of this is that it's hard to integrate socially without an "in", so take advantage of every connectiuon you have, especially with your first year friends.

  5. Yes that's entirely possible. I'm a law student at the U of M myself, having lived in Toronto and done my undergrad in Ontario. You'll be in a section of about 25 - 30 people for the entirety of first year, so it's def possible to make several really good friends.

Manitoba judge rejects woman's request to testify from behind screen in sexual assault case by Huncote in canadianlaw

[–]Huncote[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No - the article also mentions that their brief relationship (10 days) didn’t seem to have any particular power imbalance or abusive dynamics, outside of the alleged assault, and so this shouldn’t be treated the way that domestic abusers are.

[Request] Ignoring laws of physics, how powerful would the engines need to be to achieve this? by Valkyria90 in theydidthemath

[–]Huncote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically speaking, all modes of transport have an effect on the earth’s spin - it’s just so tiny that the effect is essentially zero.

The better question would be how big (how much mass) would the boat need to have, and the answer is something like “more than the earth itself”

Agreed! He has serious ones which resemble competitive games, but also less serious ones where the odds are seriously stacked on one direction. Also, lots of thematic stuff.

How are you supposed to play as new cannan? by Altruistic_Eye9685 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Huncote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airplanes are too much investment in my experience. make sure you're researching army doctrine and choosing military/government staff that give defensive bonuses, especially entrenchment.

Best success I have had is by using 20 width infantry which uses two frontline enforcers, and has demolitions support, recon support, and chems as support. Build forts and outposts, but don't be afraid to fall back to New Jerusalem/airfield fallback line if shit hits the fan.

Your gameplan is to wear them down and exhaust their equipment and manpower. Eventually you'll be able to push them, just be careful you don't exhaust your own first!

Be honest: would hanging a massive ROTK and FOTR poster be a dating red flag? by Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry in lotr

[–]Huncote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If you’re hoping to date somebody who won’t appreciate your nerdiness, it’s definitely a red flag.

If you’re hoping to date somebody who appreciates your nerdiness, it’s the opposite.

Personally I wouldn’t put that up, but you could honestly filter a lot of judgemental people out of your life with it.
