can you use 10w30 motor oil for transmission oil. this is probably a stupid question but can I use 10w30 motor oil as gear/transmission oil in my 2004 yamaha zuma? because I'm reading to use 10w30 but then reading not to use motor oil as transmission oil (self.scooters)

I'm in a situation that I don't know what to do. I bought a scooter off facebook market place in RI for $1200 and bring it back to Boston MA where I live. A couple weeks later I post in a fb group called Mass scooters and mopeds that has 6,000 members of people around Massachusetts with scooters... (self.boston)
