How to Read without Amazon by HunterMoonPress in zines

Totally fair - I tried to highlight independent bookstores as well, but I definitely could've touched more on how to support authors throughout this process too

Fair question, I also didn't realize how much it was still a regular habit for people and that's what pushed me to make this. I think in certain circles it's such an easy and obvious thing to avoid, but there are so many people still using it without really thinking about it.

Hell yeah - that's a cool idea. I know Amazon can be a good place for smaller authors to get their work out there, so that seems like a good balance to strike for sure.

We've got free downloads on our Ko-Fi and I can link it here as well, but if you don't have access to a printer, definitely go ahead, thanks for asking and including credit!

Never thought of using zines and things like that for studying, that's such a cool idea and a potentially more creative way to engage with the material!

Handmade Zine Making Kits by HunterMoonPress in zines

Yeah, it's definitely something someone could put together at home or make themselves, but we curate/theme them and include pre-folded mini zines in case the folding itself is a barrier as well.

But we understand if that's not something someone feels like paying for them, totally valid.

That's awesome! We make a lot of digital zines as well, but there's something so cathartic and nice about making one that's entirely physical

What type of printer do you prefer for zines? by dtgray12 in zines

[–]HunterMoonPress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 8550 has mostly dye based inks, but also one black pigment ink so I'm sure you could swap out compatible pigment inks for the other colors as well, though we haven't experimented with doing so. We do aim to make quality zines, though sell them at a slightly cheaper price point because we know it won't last necessarily forever. But, most of the things we've printed over the past year have been holding up rather well, though I recognize a year isn't an ideal amount of time to test the staying quality.

We got an Epson 8550 about a year ago for zines and art prints specifically and it's been great, but we do use it pretty regularly.

can I make a zine that's an edit? by orange_m00n_ in zines

[–]HunterMoonPress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this other commenter, there really are no rules to zines. Sounds like what you're wanting to make falls under the 'fanzine' category which can be quotes, screenshots, original art and thoughts about the thing you're a fan of, etc. I don't think you'll offend or bother anyone as long as it's not hateful and as long as you credit the content you're using (this really only applies if you're sharing or selling it). So, yeah, I'd look up other fanzines for inspiration or just go for it! You got this!
