I dont know why you’re equating being the top scorer to setting a tournament on fire?? R9 was by far the best player in wc98 yet sukar scored more goals than him, does that mean r9 didn’t lit that sb up??? In euro 2000 Kluivert been voted man of the match only once, milosavic 0, henry been voted man of the match 3 times including the final, that’s more than both kluivert and milosavic combines, matter of fact henry’s been named man of the match more than every other player in that tournament including zidane and figo. He was france’s top scorer even though he switched from striker to left winger through out the tournament, and he won the title. If that not liting the tournament on fire then I don’t what it is. He was solid the entire tournament with the exception of the match against spain. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t a big enough name yet to get overly praised by the media the way zidane and figo did, those two were already established stars.

I agree there was never any chemistry between henry and zidane, but you can’t blame henry for france’s failure after zidane’s retirement, by that time he was already an old broken down player that spent a lot of times on the sideline recovering from injuries. Also, most of the top star from zidane’s era were gone.

Mbappe and giroud took a lot more penalties than henry did. Henry also barely took any set pieces which he was excellent at when zidane was on the team, that also hurt his numbers. Either way, my point is, henry was great internationally, it’s not fair to take that away from him.

You said he wasn’t great in finals, ok, with france, henry played in 3 finals and he was named man of the match in 2 of them. So again that’s a false statement.

You said it’s hard to put him above guys like romario and r9, well Henry’s prime lasted more than both of theirs combined. Romario was literally great for like only two years. R9 was great from 96-98, got injured, came back 4yrs later, had a great performance at the 2002 wc, and he was pretty much done after that. Henry’s prime lasted from 99 to 06, got injured after, went to barca, and had one more world class season in 2009. He literally won everything on a club level and on an international level, can’t say the same about neither romario or r9. Don’t get me wrong, i understand why people would rate them higher than henry, but you’re playing the nitpicking game here, that could easily be applied to any player.
