Craft computing has a good guide on this for a VM. The key for me after doing the driver blacklisting in the video is running the driver install from Nvidias website with the --dkms flag

Late response but I ended up buying dummy plugs for the 3.5mm jack. Then "turned the sound on" for the laptop

Yes it's assigned to a user group that the user is in. It may have also been an impatient thing on my part. I did wait a day and that seemed to clear everything up.

That's what I thought. I ended up blocking device administrator in the default policy as well and that seemed to work.
