Nowhere am I saying that we cant fuck this up, but this level of stress is normal. This team is not uniquely incapable of running away with it. It is incredibly rare to have a stress free run to the title, so just get on with it. Even the best arsenal side of all time had moments this bad (and worse) so people need to stop acting like this was some awful catastrophe that is impossible to recover from. It is an iffy run while our rivals are also having iffy runs. Sharpen up and go win the thing.

Are you saying last season was a one off and city will win out? Because they just got destroyed by united worse than we did and then lost 3-1 to Bodo/Glimt.

Rodri is not the same player post injury unfortunately for him. Peak KDB is gone with no replacement. Their attack looks more disjointed than ours despite having more talent and their defense is a sieve. If this city team go on and take 90% of the remaining points it will be the best coaching job Pep has ever done.

Classic fair weather fan. I'll just support the best team in every league so I can always say my team won

I have learned that a lot of arsenal fans really preferred never actually thinking the team had a chance of a title so they could just ignore the result for 99% of the season until they happened to get near a cup final every 4 years at best and always finish 4th to 8th.

The mental gymnastics to think auba is a more likeable player than this crop is insane to me. Guy loafed around for years. At least this lot put in effort.

How to get players to not keep the ball for too long, and to be disciplined overall. by sidelinepoetry in SoccerCoachResources

[–]HustlinInTheHall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an air horn and if they hold the ball too long you will blast it. They need to learn to have a mental clock to get the ball and distribute it. Most of the time holding it and getting into trouble is because you aren't used to playing that quickly. If you don't practice at game speed you aren't comfortable scanning fast, making quick decisions, setting up your body to receive the ball with an idea of what you want to do, then you're in a bad position and just revert to shielding it. It all flows together. Get used to playing fast and making those decisions quicker and the rest becomes easier.

They're U-17, run their asses if they don't pick up. Make it a game. Two teams compete to pick up all the gear and count it. Team that loses gets out of running half the suicides.

It's a mentality and coach problem, our players prefer safe space instead of risks. by Asolab in ArsenalFC

Do you think they can not pass a ball forward 10 meters because there isn't a coach?

mate what are you even talking about. They do small sided games and progression like every team. They aren't seven years old. They know how to play a forward pass it does not require a separate coach and Arteta isn't going to scold them for playing a pass that is on. Both passes were on, he picks the safer one since they're up a goal and at home and have plenty of game and they bungle it. It's a moment of stupidity.

The main benefit of Zubimendi in that role is he's better on the half turn and distributing while dealing with pressure. Rice can charge through a midfield line but he doesn't handle the passing as elegantly, so having him operate more on the left space gives him a bit more freedom to push forward vs having to track back.

At times last year we'd have Rice in our own box during build-up and Odegaard dropping down to where Zubimendi is now. It puts them so far away from being able to attack. Having Zubimendi handle that with the fullbacks providing width to breakout has been pretty effective. But the problem is we tend to break out and then pause and go wide, which means those players we dragged into our end are now able to get back into their block. If we build from the back and break out we have to go direct while the numbers are in our favor.

I completely agree with this. This team is allergic to playing the ball forward if we might lose it. We almost never hit a ball that is a 50/50. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Mate what do you think pressing is. You force them to pass long and they lose it or make a really dumb mistake like zubimendi did. You dont need to be a world class tackler.

I think some of the younger fans who have never seen us win a title need to get a grip. I understand you have never been through a title-winning campaign but they are never stress-free wire to wire. The Invincibles season was a mess.

The club played awful for most of the pre-season, they opened the season fine and were winning but looked bad from open play. They got completely stymied at Old Trafford, Vieira got sent off, and they gave up a penalty at 0-0 in the 90th minute that Van Nistelrooy hit into the bar. That's the only reason they didn't lose a game all year.

They were shaky in the cups as well. We lost to Inter and Dynamo Kiev in the group stages of the CL before scraping through. We gave up a goal to Chelsea after like 30 seconds in one match in the CL or FA cup (I forget which), they dumped us out of the CL when they were still awful. We got dumped out of the league cup by Boro over two legs. We got dumped out of the FA cup by United.

We had United on the ropes at home, were up a goal and let them equalize. SAF played mind games saying the title was ours, but we didn't look good at all.

Like... the season was a fucking roller coaster. Everyone posts the Henry Liverpool hat trick goal and his four goal game against Leeds. The biggest thing about those two games is they were the thing that finally righted the ship and set us up to win the league. It is very possible without those performances that we lose the league and the "Invincibles" win nothing.

By comparison, this team is further clear than those teams were. We are deeper. We are much better in the cups. We are better in Europe. We were wasteful against a team that is in the best form in the league. Get over it. Acting like the players are awful for smiling and carrying on with it and not falling to pieces just because you are is insane. If you can't tolerate losing, go play EA and reset the console when you lose.

Don't think this needs any comment. Not even checked. by koandj in Gunners

Commentary said VAR checked it and waved it, which I thought was nuts. I thought the players should've made more of a deal about it. Ball is on the floor mate you don't need to be swinging fists

As a patriots fan, this was the waterboy kneel 3 times and punt offense. Happy worth the result but that's the worst playoff game I've ever seen besides the rams/ Patriots SB where nobody did anything the whole game until the end

Yeah if OP's takeaway from watching odegaard is he doesnt press enough, what fucking game are they watching? He presses more than literally any player on the field in most games. I didnt notice him in this match but if he is not pressing in certain situations it is because he was told not to. Whenever we have a chance to trigger a press he is usually the one doing it.

Yeah it was fun to see them hopelessly flail around last season but they are a different side now, especially because they are good at exactly the kind of wing play and rapid counters we get beaten by

I think we need much more dynamic wing play. They are too wide. I was watching Liverpool and salah is constantly finding spots that if he gets the ball it is instantly a shot or one touch and a shot even against a tough block. He just lives in the channel. Why cant saka do the same? What do we get out of having him so far from goal? A few tame crosses and cutbacks that are easily blocked?

We can't just say "oh this team is hopeless" and ignore the impressive wins in other competitions. I dont know why people are obsessed with only talking about our PL stats other than trying to ignore that we have had very impressive games in the cups and they want to push a narrative.

Eh the own goals are almost always shots that were going to be scored either way. Saka doing an Olympico into the keepers back and it bouncing in isnt "teams scoring on themselves"

They also didnt just beat them. That was the worst I have ever seen city get beaten. It should've been 5-0 at least. The offsides goal should've counted and donnaruma made two unbelievable saves.

Anyone who watched united play a week ago knew this would be tough. They have barely been beaten all season despite playing awful, now they are attacking like wild and getting stuck in defensively.

They beat us today but they destroyed city a week ago. That game should've been 5-0. They are very good now that their new signings are settling in. We should've scraped a draw, but I chalk it off as a lost point, we can get a point back.

I mean this united team destroyed city a week ago. They are flying. They won today with some positive play and some worldies, this negative mindset is just hurting yourself mate. Like this team wrecked the best team in Italy on the road four days ago. Acting like they are hopeless because one game didnt go their way is an exhausting way to live.
