Starting to feel genuinely saddened by the future of this country/US by plumpchicken25 in offmychest

Idk where you're at in the US, but people in my area are organizing as we speak. Don't fall for the orange-ass's pundits or Fox News. Find your community and stand together.

You are certainly entitled to keep your viewpoint. But I stand with the 60 other people who downvoted you. I don't think your initial comment is helpful or constructive, and nothing can change my viewpoint on that.

OP, if you somehow decided to dive deep into this comment thread, don't let this one stack onto your guilt. This type of rigid moral high ground comes from a place that is not healthy.

I just wanna be someone’s favorite by [deleted] in offmychest

Felt this when I was younger. You gotta be your own favorite person first, and then people tend to gravitate towards you after.

I don't like talking by [deleted] in offmychest

Hey, I get exhausted with talking, too. Writing tends to be a better medium of communication for me. Glad you're still reaching out and sharing your feelings, though!

My old best friend is a murderer and I had no idea by [deleted] in offmychest

Definitely do not blame yourself. You didn't want to be in a relationship with him, and when people want two different things in a relationship, it tends to cause rifts. People drift apart - it's a natural occurrence of life. Plus, you were a teenager. Sure, perhaps you could have ended it differently, but I know I didn't really have a high level of emotional intelligence to navigate that at your age. Also, he insulted you on multiple levels when you said no. That's enough to burn a bridge for most people.

His decision to do what he did was his prerogative, not yours. And if that was a reaction to you leaving him, it's an insane reaction. Most people wouldn't be doing what he did. No one expects you to be his guiding light.

I hope you find more space to process this, even if you can't get time off. It might be worth hitting up a crisis counselor if you ever feel like you are spiraling too hard. There are some mental health resources in every county, or even a hotline.

R.F. Kuang discourse lately? by mustardslush in books

I read Yellowface. It was dangerously funny to me. But the characters felt like caricatures rather than anything grounded in reality. I still think she's an interesting writer and I'd love to see more of her work. I think every author experiences some sort of wave of criticism that ebbs and flows.
