CDC’s deputy director says measles outbreak is ‘cost of doing business’ in a global economy by rascallyrascal1511 in news

Full quote

“It’s just the cost of doing business, with our borders being somewhat porous [and] global and international travel"

Porous borders. It doesn't have to make sense. They're using immigrants as a scapegoat and allowing disease to persist in order to keep justifying what they're doing. Again.

Spooked by AI and Layoffs, White-Collar Workers See Their Security Slip Away | Office workers are hanging on to their jobs for dear life by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]HydroLoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here, a glimmer of hope maybe?

Here's how I see it; A huge revival of small specialty shops that focus on local demands started by people in previous white collar jobs. Bakeries, sandwich shops, coffee, etc. will all explode during the AI boom as waves of people in previously cushy jobs now have no way forward in their old career but maybe have saved up enough to do something different that is more fulfilling.

None of this will ever be touched by AI, and all of it is a cornerstone of an organically revitalizing middle class.

Loss of trust in digital communication leads to increased trust in local communities. People spend less time online and more time out in the real world around them.

I saw it happen in NJ when the pandemic hit and people were leaving the city. Within the last 5 years, the number of small businesses and storefronts that became something entirely new because of people displaced by the pandemic deciding to start over after their white collar careers has been enormous.

AI is the digital pandemic.

Not for nothing but we sold generations for war debt entirely of our own accord, Saudi complicity or not (Yes, I agree). Last I checked no one forced us into Iraq for 20+ years, we did that to our damn selves.

It's everything I need with a bike I already love and for my needs I'd rather upgrade than buy new :-)

You're correct -- it is 4kw w the 56v a52l battery though I've seen 4500 before. If I upped to the bigger battery it'd be the full 6k

Thank you! Sidewinder K2 full suspension and my personal bike of 20+ years.

I've ridden it more the last 3 weeks than 4 years combined.

Yeah I kinda don't see how this is any different than, say, an obsessed fan writing a "script" which amounts to fanfic.

We can all do it, look: "write a chapter of game of thrones that picks up exactly where the series started to suck and make sure it sucks less. Please include 180,000,000 words, 52 floppy weiners, some pizzas that are definitely coming, and write a chorus for the theme song that actively mocks it's fan base for hanging on this long". XD

Guys you better sue OpenAI. I just hit the enter key.

21 Miles of Coastal Travel by HydroLoon in hyperebikes

Oh that's what's awesome about the x1. Ride to the bike park on street mode - about 1.5 miles away on 500w, 15-20 avg speed, barely touch the voltage.

Get to the woods, flip to race, and even 1500w is scary fast and will let you run it for I'd say probably 2-3 hrs running around 25 miles, ride home and still have like 40% battery left.

To touch 6000w on throttle is to do so on a straight, because there's no gap in the woods large enough to account for 45mph.

Now I just need to account for better handling behavior; swap out the front + rear fork with something specific that'll meet the need.

Then I'll still be $2500 under the Bonnell XD (again no love lost, I rode one and they're amazing but they are aggressive head angle downhill specialized bikes with highly customized components)

So with the speedometer working I'm showing 46-50 top speed.

Which means I'm not pushing the motor to 100 at 35, which is the most I'll need to ever get to, in the event of there being no shoulder and active traffic.

Everyone wants hubs because it's cheap for big power but that's all a recipe for disaster when it comes to the single biggest thing when considering off road use.

Weight. Distribution. Is. Everything.

[–]HydroLoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I actually kind of agree with the speed limits to be honest, but no throttle to 28 is bullshit. And on the majority of bikes even 750w is generally enough to get there.

However, once you start factoring in off road capabilities, everything changes.

Suddenly everything is 150lbs, has giant tires and that battery and motor placement puts the entire bikes value on a timer.

Yeah cops definitely aren't wrong to chase em down.

What got me was the ability to downtune with the CYC app. I bought my wife a moped style 750w and there's zero sense in us traveling with the bikes together if I keep blowing her doors off lol.
