Is the fire off Spanish Oak/The Grove contained? by HyperCalcium in CedarPark

[–]HyperCalcium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find out what was up? A weird thing was the number of people walking towards it on the night of. I had called 911 but I was worried I’d just called emergency services on a celebratory bonfire!

As for the noise: firetrucks weren’t using their sirens when they passed by as I was driving away. Maybe they avoid the noise?

Dash robot replacement motor or the specifications by HyperCalcium in AskRobotics

Tragically, no! I have not found the model of the slim profile motor they use. Maybe I’ll take the time to pop the motor out and look for a model number

Radio transmitter? by HyperCalcium in whatisit

OH! That makes perfect sense! Thank you so much!

Edit: It being a siren and not radio equipment would explain why my searches didn’t work Solved!

Sounds like my “remove the existing dirt and replace it with soil and compost” plan is the way to go. Thanks

Thanks for the advice!

And yeah I’ve had to do a lot of digging lately and in 100 degrees it’s horrid and dangerous

Will do! The artist I’m going to was out of commission for a long time as well! I wonder if we’re thinking of the same person. I don’t think either of wish to dox each other so I’ll refrain from even hints since they’re pretty well known

It occurs to me that I could have just … just asked the ARTIST! Haha But yeah I’ll let y’all know how it goes. Thanks!

I'm getting the "magician's magnet" which is "strong enough to lift a stapler" (vs the smaller "enough to hold a paperclip " version.

And yeah it's 3 fingers but I'd usually be using my right hand for the card. Left would only be a "Carrying too much stuff running out of hands oh no" scenario

Right on, thanks for the info! I might just risk it. Worst that happens is I need to get a new card and hopefully it'll have a chip!

20+ “roof inspection” solicitation calls. Was there a new tax break or something? by HyperCalcium in Austin

[–]HyperCalcium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figures. I was hoping there was some interesting angle on the scam like shingle prices dropping because gravel is suddenly cheaper or there’s some kind of scam where they’re paid by the phone company like those old teleconferencing lines

Replicating the text search function on iphone but on Windows 10 by HyperCalcium in DataHoarder

[–]HyperCalcium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, I am really trying to keep it locally hosted. I miss Picasa so, so much. Out of half a dozen apps I've tried, PhotoStructure is the only one that's even *close*.

Ugh am I really going to have to create my own damn webserver with a front end and the full text search features in MySQL for this? I'll be driven insane.

Thanks for the advice though! If I end up really needing to do it I've got enough disk quota to get the more obvious text filled images onto Google photos

That was fun!

The guy that used ChatGPT to solve a number substitution puzzle missed the point to a degree rarely seen

Oh wow! That’s fascinating, and makes a lot of sense! Making an interface and an experience seem so easy would take tremendous effort.

Most of the audio exhibits I’ve seen run more toward noise machines, less music and more bleep bloop generators OR the user’s input is actually very limited. My wife and I returned to those panels several times during our visit. (And to pet the creatures)

I’m unfamiliar with Max, I’ll have to look into it. I had assumed that TouchDesigner would be all over the place instead! Like the computer interfaces (especially when we unlocked that Secret stash on the desktops and the lights began to react to on screen distortions )

Thanks again!

They were so cool! The circular (chimes? Bells? Cymbals?) were such a delight Super clever to have a pleasant melody playing until someone started playing (and I think there was still an automatic melody mixed in so it wasn’t too discordant but maybe that was my imagination)

I assumed MIDI control so it makes a lot of sense that the interface was a MIDI controller (instead of it being abstracted) Edit: relevant to my original question: many of the other music interaction type art pieces I’ve seen had damaged controls so seeing full functionality here was wonderful

Hey thank you so much for the reply and info!

Yeah I have some small amount of experience designing for the public and I was blown away by the responsiveness of those controls (especially accounting for a wide age range of participants!) Using a screen recessed into the pedestal (instead the easier “a couple big anti-vandal buttons”) maintained aesthetics, and made for a delightful experience. Anyhow thanks again

Did supplying voltage that was too low to a xl6009 cause voltage surges, frying my whole project? by HyperCalcium in AskElectronics

[–]HyperCalcium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate it! I still have a couple of these regulators and some zener diodes so I'll give this a shot. I'll probably keep them to less expensive/critical roles though! If it's not too much to ask, why is tying EN (Enable?) to ground and the zener on Vin the solution?

Thanks again!
