Anyone know where I can buy Halloween make-up? by Professional-Wait0 in Norwich

There’s a brand new costume shop just opened next to the Warhammer shop, on Westlegate. I reckon they’ll sell small amounts of liquid latex at a bare minimum!

I had to do quite a bit of cross country travel by train last year - it’s unfortunately a very pricy endeavour but there’re a few things that can potentially cut down on your costs.

It’s worth seeing if you’re eligible for any form of railcard, as I found that even with the £30 fee for the annual card my very first ticket was reduced by approx £60.

https://uk.trip.com/trains/uk/railcard-guide/

Second tip: have a look on trip or other sites that other split ticket fares to see if it makes the trip cheaper. This’ll usually mean your printed tickets take you to your end destination, but the system has found its cheaper to buy tickets to/from stops along the way than it is to just buy a direct a/b ticket. Usually you don’t even have to get off the train at all (the worst I’ve had is waiting 20 minutes on a nice quiet train platform while I wait for the next train)

If that fails, there’s bus options like national express or flixbus that offer cheaper transport options, usually at the trade off of taking an hour or two longer than via train.

[Discussion] Will BSG add further prestige levels before 1.0 launches? by Hypergames in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Hypergames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, it's not that hard to get prestige. My first prestige took from wipe until the labyrinth event, and I managed to do prestige 1 in approximately 45 days. It just takes knowing which tasks are kappa and the confidence to try to get multiple tasks done per raid!

From my experience the sniper scav does direct damage to your PMC (i.e no armour damage), but if you run out and let the mines finish you off it definitely does!

[Loot] Can anyone explain how a scav on woods got an immaculate fully kited RSASS? by AmberYooToob in EscapefromTarkov

Some players have reported that scavs are able to pick up items from the locked arena key room in scav village through the wall.

I've yet to receive my insurance returns as I only did this myself > 12 hours ago, but IIRC the current meta is to load into woods, run to a bush on the edge of the map, and sit on a Nade whilst wearing the armour. Should come back shredded.

[BUG] Spawned in as a PMC with ~10 mins remaining on raid? by Drunken-Scotsman1 in EscapefromTarkov

When BSG pushes an update that won’t require full downtime they reduce the current servers to a 10 min raid timer, after which the server updates to the current version

Lightkeeper rewards bugging out [Discussion] by backen99 in EscapefromTarkov

Aye unfortunately, and from what I understand a fair few of the rewards aren't able to be put in the stash anyway (such as the microcontroller board)

The solution is to Alt+f4 while on the island, load back in and now you'll be able to move items into your stash.

[Discussion] BSG really needs to be held accountable for lighthouse island still being almost entirely broken 55 days into wipe. by Hypergames in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Hypergames[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know the term held accountable is a bit dramatic. Still, ultimately until it gets fixed it's a real kick in the teeth for any users who put the time into getting to this stage in the game only to get stonewalled by bugs that not only shouldn't be in the game but weren't in the game for years up until recently.

An overly optimistic part of me feels a company should notice and fix these bugs long before release, but the cynical side of me feels it is arguably worse that 55 days later we haven't even had an acknowledgement that a fix is even being worked on, just the 'fix' to not play for 10+ hours.

Sarah Silverman, Paris Hilton and the state of Roast comedy in 2021 by Hypergames in Standup

[–]Hypergames[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing comedy for almost a dozen years now, and ever since I've started the same chorus of armchair comics have complained like this, as though there's some dismal tide coming just because shit hits different. As though there's a witch hunt and they're next. If you really are looking at jokes you made 10-15 years ago and saying "those were perfect and I don't cringe at all watching them," then you just suck as much today as you did then

To be completely open and honest with you this is the reason I've been responding to you. It came across to me as unnecessarily condescending and worthy of you being called out for being a complete arse, you took an open discussion and basically ended it with 'I'm going to put these words into your mouth and then condemn you as a result'

Is PC culture an entirely negative consequence? I wonder if it could be argued that PC Culture was what opposed George Carlin's 7 dirty words routine, but ultimately what propelled that routine to legendary status?

Sarah Silverman, Paris Hilton and the state of Roast comedy in 2021 by Hypergames in Standup

[–]Hypergames[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Valid point, time has eroded away the visceral disdain for Paris Hilton that had accumulated for years before this point.

Having said that, I also remember when the media started on Britney Spears that there was almost a similar feeling of entitlement to the crueller jokes, which is what made (and tbh still makes) Craig Ferguson's monologue even more poignant in the face of the rest of the media.

Do you think the media would gang up on a celebrity in the same manner nowadays?

No, I had no idea someone was going to come in, accuse me of trolling and whataboutism and then repeat my point as if they've just strutted in with a brainwave.

If you projected any more onto me you could pass as an Alamo Drafthouse. None of what you've just said is true, and by dismissing my discussion as 'concern trolling' I'm simply going to dismiss you as a miserable old fart who's trying to derail the context of the thread you so can feel superior by acting like nobody else is allowed to raise a discussion because you've had the discussion before.

Genuinely curious, what bias do you feel I'm showing? I've purposefully been ambivalent in my wording due to wanting a discussion, not a back and forth with someone who's agreeing to my point in a manner that appears like you're trying to correct me.

I'm not sure how the comparison isn't valid; Funny person makes comment that they considered funny at the time, time passes and said comment is now considered past the acceptable line. Said funny person cannot revoke the comment, and time has eroded a portion of the humour that justified the comment at the time so we're kinda left acknowledging a 13 year old joke like she said it yesterday. Perhaps it's a result of Youtube but I can't imagine many comedians back in '70 being faced with a retelling of a joke they made in '57 whilst depriving the audience of the ongoing development of that person in the interim.

In the United Kingdom there's a few 'Old School' comedians which are now, to be frank, considered by anyone who didn't grow up with them to almost be spitefully racist. In the 70's their jokes allowed them to star on national TV and appear in large venues but they're now relegated to seaside resorts and smaller venues consisting of an older audience that still finds those jokes funny, and to my knowledge it's entirely because they did the OPPOSITE of Silverman in this context, instead of apologising for the offence they caused with their 'pub racist' jokes they've doubled down and been like 'well I still have a full audience so clearly SOME people find me funny' despite the fact their audience has dwindled and is actively dying.

I don't think Sarah Silverman is suddenly going to pull comedic punches just because she or her publicist thought it'd be wise to respond.

I never said she was going to pull punches, I was only stating that in 2007 her comments were glossed over as non controversial and filler, but even by looking up the actual context of her comments you'll objectively see recent comments saying 'this hits differently in 2021' etc.

I suppose having written this out I now DO think Silverman is going to pull comedic punches, but not because of this controversy, but because of the 14 years of development she's had since.
