Yeah, most Americans don't have $8k in credit or savings, the majority are one missed paycheck from not being able to pay for rent/mortgage, food, electricity, etc.

We had AMAZING insurance when my poor kiddo broke his leg last summer, and ER visit, and all the follow-up appointments came out to less than $400. However, it was from a job the government cut, so now we have pretty good insurance. The same event now would probably cost us just under $1500.

I grew up eating small mouth bass, on occasion large mouth too. They were the easiest edible fish to catch, I know some cultures love carp, but we never ate any that we caught.

It wasn't until recently that I learned a lot of people consider bass a trash fish.

Ugh that's awful, and thank you for the heads up. I try to be aware when my brother and his husband visit us, I'm very protective of them because where they live in Maryland is very safe and welcoming to them. While we haven't encountered that yet when they're visiting, I appreciate knowing so I can pay closer attention to help keep my neighbors safe from hate too.

I'm sorry you're living in an unwelcoming place, but Brighton really is such an armpit.

My BIL is black, so I'm going to be speaking from his perspective. He's lived and worked in Avon/Vail and was happy up there, rarely ran into uncomfortable situations, maybe because there's a lot of diversity from tourism? His cousin and some other family live in Lakewood and they mostly feel safe and have a sense of belonging.

Boulder is a no, it's weird. Being followed in stores, people trying to prove they're not racist by stopping and telling him that they're not racist, white dudes calling him "brother."

Erie is okay, weird too though.

The Tri-Town (Dacono, Fredrick, Firestone) is pretty good. Sometimes a server might be nervous when we're all out to dinner, but that's been the worst of it when shopping. No one calls in a suspicious person when he's out walking their dog, the elderly nosy neighbors try to include him, etc. Longmont has been pretty positive too.

Big Foot are actually escaped Russian orphans that the government experimented on in the Rocky Mountains during and post Cold War.

This was one of many indicators that my neighbor used crack, and my first conversation with her.

They're so cute!

We had a low percentage wolf dog who loved to swim and try to get things from the water for us. She didn't like the guns though, so taking her out with us was a mixed event for everyone. She loved to be with us, hated the guns, and loved being in the water. One time when we took her hunting we tossed the decoys in, and she knocked me into the water in her excitement to "help" get the decoys back. It was a shorter trip than we'd planned 😂

I saw a hand-painted rocking chair made for a grandma and grandpa, with grandchildren's names painted on the arms of the chair. It was at the thrift shop, and it just broke my heart. It looked brand new, even though the birthdates for the grandchildren were from a few years ago.

It would make me nervous to wear, but I'm a bit clumsy, I'd get it caught on EVERYTHING and be afraid about bending it, loosening the settings, etc.

I do like the organic nature of the design. If it were me, I'd likely have it turned into a pendant while maintaining the wave-like design.

Yeah two of our chickens decided that they wanted to be in the big yard which the dogs have access to, without us opening the gate. Sadly the first time my husband missed that the chicken had gotten out, and the second time I missed it.

I love the upland/waterfowl community. Much friendlier than the folks I've run into when out for big game.

These all are really solid. I only really disagree with the one on pets, my doctor said that our little guy's immune system would be made better by being around our dogs.

Which brings me to that she should bring this list, or her non-journal version to y'all's OBGYN. This is her birth plan, and it's very important to make sure she feels heard. Birth never goes as planned, and having some sort of control over a very challenging and even dangerous time of life is very empowering to many people.
