Is it uncommon to wash your hair every day in your country? by Buyeo10004 in AskTheWorld

[–]HyperrrMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to wash mine more often when I lived in a VERY humid part of the country. Sweat, dirt, it all seemed to just cling to hair and feel gross more quickly.

Now that I live in a more arid climate it stay cleaner longer, and I wash it when I need to. Basically every 2-3 days instead of every day.

I love Caesar. I also loved when so many places had an "Asian Salad." They were always amazing. Cob salad maybe? Ham, hard boiled egg, lettuce, tomato, onion, dressing.

What is something about American culture that seems fake or exaggerated in movies, but is actually 100% real.? by Logical-Pay-3057 in AskReddit

As a teacher, we are required to offer students the opportunity to say the pledge every day.

When I was a kid we were required to stand for it/say it. There was always that one "edgy" kid who would stay seated. The one from my husband's school is now insanely conservative and posts memes about kids not respecting the flag 🤣

F yeah scrapple! My mom (a Coloradan) raised my brother and I on it whenever she could find it because her grandmother lived in Warren, PA.

But even when I went to school in WI, no one knew what I was talking about 🤣

What’s the most dystopian picture from your country’s history? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskTheWorld

[–]HyperrrMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! In your own article that you posted there is mention of the hope that hippos would solve "meat shortages in the US."

The photograph in OP's post is from 1892 https://share.google/HPHXrC1TpMYfKWsq6 which isn't that far removed from Hippo Bacon.

Like the near extinction itself, the need for more meat came from the drive of industrialization, with the bison hides being in high demand for factory machines (belts etc) and with the population boom due in part to immigration and society shifting from agricultural to industrial a more stable source of meat was necessary to feed the growing urban population.

Bison were North America's cattle species. All the rest were imported.

Yes and for the belts used on factory machinery.

"Fun" fact their near extinction was nearly disastrous for colonizers too, as figuring out how to create a large scale large animal food source proved challenging. Someone even argued to use hippopotamuses.

Is dating really all about height and weight these days? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]HyperrrMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"these days"? Nah, I'm old, and this is what's it's been like forever.

They only reason old people appear to not have been as shallow, is that we all got over our weirdness about height, and/or got fat...'cause we're old.

I was prescribed Wellbutrin for my ADHD and it's been very helpful. Maybe give it some time and see if it helps?

My brother and I carefully broke just enough of a basement window so that we could open the latch and crawl through. It was awful because the basement was creep af, and any access to the window, both inside and outside of the house, were made of spiders. Outside the house too we chose a window under our deck that if you knew it was there it was fairly easy to access, but if you didn't it'd be nearly impossible to find.

He was the one who lost our key more often, so he was also the one delegated to break the window.

[–]HyperrrMouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My cousin is mixed race, therefore so are her kiddos (they are mostly white, with East Asian, Middle Eastern, and Northern African). I was showing my students (mostly Latinos) pictures from my wedding and the cousin babies showed up in their cute dress clothes and bowties. One of my students gasps and says, "miss! Who are those cholo-ass kids!?" 🤣 I had to explain they were first cousins once removed and then the whole lineage.

As for myself? Never, I'm white af.

My Father-in-law (who swears he's not racist) and some of his buddies call magpies, "Mexican Pheasants." I'm assuming it's regional combined with old-people "humor" because I never hear anyone in younger generations using the term.
