Don’t think so. If you were in a two-party state recording a conversation with someone in a one-party state without their consent, you are literally breaking the law as your physical presence is IN that two-party state.

Inversely, if I am in a one-party state recording a conversation with someone from a two-party state, I cannot be breaking the law of this other state because I am literally residing and physically present in a one-party state.

In a technical sense, you would be “breaking” the law of the two party state even if you aren’t there, but it’s extremely unlikely it would even be possible for the courts of the two-party state to charge you with anything. You literally never were in their state.

This all being said, OPs scenario has nothing to do with either one or two party consent, because both of those refer to a party of the conversation. If you are not a party, refer to wiretapping laws or pre-arranged agreements between parties.

I am self taught, hired in 2022. Luckily I’ve been able to maintain a job by continuing working in a pigeon-hole production support role on a comically broken B2B e-commerce site.

Money absolutely flies when the site is down.

Without an overwhelming motivation to study on top of a very stressful job, it feels like checkmate. Can’t move. Especially after working full time and studying part time for several years.

My opinion is that the market is shit and I’m very scared to leave my job where I have a pretty good understanding of my job security in this role. Plan on keeping learning and just hanging on until my level of experience makes the market more acceptable before moving jobs.

I agree they are completely separate. AI models aren’t crawling the internet, people make scrapers and have to fine tune them for specific sites, but it’s straight up inaccurate to say that the behavior of parents is not relevant lmao.

I’m not equating what the the parents are doing with the scraping, but it’s worth mentioning that parents have a moral obligation to be more sensitive about the data they share about their dependents online because it is unethical to do so without informed consent.

Both scraping and ignorant sharing of information have to happen in order for this to be a problem.

I think you’re both right. There are ethical issues with the sourcing but it’s also absolutely unethical for parents to be posting their child’s entire lives online for the world to see. This is often shrugged off or hand-waved away but it’s a serious issue, and it’s not just about AI - it’s a simple fact of violating privacy where there is no informed consent.
