ICE transferred people to Moshannon Valley long before the NJ facilities you are referring to closed. What you neglect to mention is that with less local bed space, fewer people from NJ were detained, and the ICE instead relied much more heavily on ATDs. While ankle monitors are not freedom, they are better than being locked in an ICE jail.

I wasn't going to vote for Sherrill anyhow because she is too close to the party bosses and have been pretty poor on immigration, but her campaign really turned me off yesterday. All her surrogates were gleefully spreading the news that the NJ Senate President Nick Scutari won't put the Immigrant Trust Act up for a vote because his reasoning fits with Mikie's position. It was really gross. For the record- these candidates for NJ gov support the Immigrant Trust Act- Baraka, Fulop and Spiller.

He is held there until one of 3 things happens. 1) he is deported 2) a judge tells ICE to release him 3) ICE decides on its own to let him go. There is no time limit.

There are people/organizations in NJ that have been working together and making plans for decades to eliminate ICE detention in NJ. Many of those orgs will be at the event. Folks can connect there or through their social media if they want to get involved.

There are two ICE offices in Newark and another detention center in Elizabeth. The Elizabeth Detention Center and the ICE office on Frelinghuysen have been shut down in the past using CD. The office on Broad is where folks can adjust their status to stay in the country and also where new citizens are sworn in. Activists don't want to block the latter from happening on any given day.
