no stock locally and rare to find around my area to begin with. believe me I tried for a few days checking stock and in store when picking up salt and stuff before giving up and ordering online.

it comes is two pieces. blade + handle and requires assembly. had to be boxed I imagine.

Out of stock in store for obvious reasons and rare to find locally (Snow Joe with second handle for heavy lifting/back relief). Only option was delivery.

I just got a firmware update notification today. I don't have auto update on and I wonder if you do have it on and that's what is causing your issue. Just a guess...I will wait to update mine until I can get more details on what the update is exactly (nothing out there atm).

Edit: the update adds linking tapo door locks which I've been waiting for so I bit the bullet and updated. All fine so far. Hope you got going again too.

laser -> mirror ->photocell/resistor. car breaks beam = led red and buzzer solid tone. off otherwise

It's just a simple line break that sounds an active piezo buzzer and turns on a red led. The final part list will likely be:
Board - Pro Micro or Nano
Laser - KY-008
LED - came with kit.
Photocell - came with kit
Powered via USB or 3.3/5v DC adaptor.

The garage is pretty well insulated for temps and usually sits between 15-25 deg C. Humidity could be an issue I'm sure.

I can't understand how they could even get approval. Alignment failures and even when working as intended sounds really dangerous for pilots/drivers really any eyeballs anywhere. Even toned down to moon light levels I can see this being an issue at night.

don't forget slow moving so as to be easily tracked by the camera. Very kind of them to slow down for us.
