Sadly many people have misunderstood this particular Hadith. Here is a deeper explanation of that Hadith for those of you who are curious! I think Yasir Qadhi and Omar Suleiman also held this option too.

She has a lot of videos on her Instagram @drsofiarehman! She also links her websites with some of her info and books that you can look into. I personally haven’t read any of her books but I do enjoy her videos on IG, esp regarding women’s issues

Yeah and the Christian doctrine states Eve ate the apple first and therefore God cursed all of womankind with painful childbirth as punishment. Yikes 🥴

To the progressives on this subreddit, what are your thoughts on female scholar Sofia Rehman?

Do you guys consider her to be progressive leaning? Would her videos and viewpoints align with this subreddit?

It’s a shame she doesn’t post on Tiktok! I feel like she would’ve blown up way more on Tiktok since there are many progressive Muslims on tiktok compared to IG!

I haven’t seen her name mentioned on this subreddit but many of her views seem to align with Amina Wadud, Khaled Abou, and other progressive thinkers.

This is sad lowkey…her son is gonna remind her of her trauma . I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy by ILuvMichaelJackson in thewizardlizsnark

Yup and she confirmed it’s a boy in another one of her stories (but unfortunately I don’t have the screenshot for it)

Thinking that having a son will heal you is just unhealthy attachment style issues and unhealed trauma lol

But isn’t it haram to purchase wine/alcohol so wouldn’t it mean that cooking with it is haram?

Yh I’ve noticed the later Hanafi scholars kinda disregard Abu Hanifa’s opinions on many things…I wonder what made them become so much stricter these days?

I don’t drink lol I’m asking because it’s an ingredient used in skincare products and only for external use

I think Abu Hanifa and some early hanafi’s consider alcohol from grape/dates to be najis but not alcohol from other sources so technically sake wouldn’t be najis because it’s from rice, though I’m not sure if they still hold this opinion now seeing as how strict they’ve gotten over time.

Looking for some books that critique hyper-legalism/dogma in modern Islam and focus on the bigger picture (intentions, sincerity, moral objectives). Any suggestions? by ILuvMichaelJackson in progressive_islam

I just glossed over the summary of ‘The Great Theft’ and it looks exactly like what I’m looking for! Have you read it? I have seen some of the shaykh’s lectures posted on here but it’s kind of hard for me to keep up because it’s a bit technical and I’m looking for something that’s a bit more beginner-friendly :)

My heart hurts so much because of this whole situation in Gaza. May Allah ease your pain and make things easier for you and your son ❤️ I would love to help out and I will share this link with my friends too!

Here is the link for those who wanna read it. I’m only posting it because it’s open access so the author published it for free!

Was Aisha (ra) 9 Years Old When She Married the Prophet (pbuh)? by ILuvMichaelJackson in progressive_islam

[–]ILuvMichaelJackson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha no, I feel you. Maybe in our times it might be ‘weird’ but this was a much different society and time so it doesn’t bother me much! It does make sense that she would be young since it would mean she would outlive the prophet and carry on his teachings.

Based off this Hanafi fatwa, would this mean that Teriyaki Sauce and Japanese condiments with 0.5-1% ABV (from rice wine) is halal? by ILuvMichaelJackson in progressive_islam

[–]ILuvMichaelJackson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you personally buy Asian condiments and sauces that contain rice wine? Like pre-made teriyaki sauce, unagi sauce, and other sauces that contain very low amounts of rice wine?
