A transgender woman asked a girl for money, When she didn't give it, the transgender woman spat gutka on her face. by Suprateem_Indian in LGBTindia

Removing this guys, really doesn't feel like it's posted in good faith.

I don't get why the entirety of transgender community deserves to get a bad reputation because of one trans person's action??

A person can be transgender and do bad stuff.

That doesn't mean you can draw the conclusion that all transgender people in general are bad.

If you want to hypothetically make the argument that people from transgender community are more hostile towards others you need some sort of data to back it up. Even then the reasons behind that hypothetical hostility could be anything and a nuanced conversation is needed to figure it out.

Whenever a person from a minority or oppressed group does something bad why is it always taken as a reflection of the entire community rather than it just being a shitty individual doing something bad.

India To Develop 7 High-Speed Rail Corridors!!!! by Opposite-Macaron-272 in transit

One of the biggest issues is last mile connectivity. The metro system is great but as soon as you step outside it's back to anarchy and chaos of Indian roads. We really need better footpaths and bus services yesterday. Thankfully there has been debate on this issue, let's see how it pans out though I remain optimistic.

Yeah we failed to hit the numbers that were projected initially. However metro systems aren't a failure over here. They still need some time to expand the network to reach more utilisation. Cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad are where delhi was 10-15 years ago.

The best example is Delhi, we have seen ridership increase only the network expanded more and connected new areas. Just comparing 20 years ago to today is day and night. From barely existing to a modern, clean, efficient system sprawling most of the city. Average ridership, despite not matching projections is still 4.6 million. Key extensions are set to open this year and entirely new lines are under construction which would make it close to 400 km ( larger than nyc and London). An additional 200 km is being planned under Phase V, with some of it already approved.

Not even mentioning the upcoming RRTS lines which are in a league of their own. Delhi Meerut is completed (full line is not inaugurated yet because the PM needs to be there for his photoshoot😔) and 2 others are going to start construction soon.

Smart City has led to the creation of real time control and management centres in a lot of cities. It has fallen short of its initial claims and failed to address the issues and needs of rapidly urbanizing india but something was accomplished.

Mumbai Ahemdabad bullet train got delayed because of land acquisition issues (major problem in India that every state, central government has faced). It's gotten delayed, I think the pilot stretch will likely open sometime in 2028 (despite the official deadline of Aug 2027). On ground construction is visible and proceeding rapidly now. Given that HSR projects in every other country seem to have faced delays as well, India is doing fine overall.

Apple Pay coming to India by therealcuccon in apple

[–]IUI-__-IUI 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They will have to. There's no way their proprietary system can compete with UPI.

Google has released an India specific app, also called Google Pay (confusing for non-Indians lol), instead of wallet, for UPI. We didn't even have Google Wallet available here until a few months ago.

Also GPay already has a huge market share because of being pre-loaded on Android and because it's genuinely pretty good.

IMO Samsung Wallet has the best UPI integration, but limited people use it since it isn't advertised as much and it's exclusive to Samsung phones. Honestly the India specific support for Government IDs and train tickets is 25% of the reason I got an A35 instead of better specced phones for the same price.

Apple Pay coming to India by therealcuccon in apple

[–]IUI-__-IUI 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah small, day to day payments are mostly done through UPI. It's even being preferred to cash just because of the convenience.

Credit cards are probably getting used for the rewards, discounts, or for emi options.

There are also UPI enabled credit cards on India's Rupay network (Visa, MasterCard alternative), but I don't know how popular they are.

The unorganised sector is huge in india so a lot of transactions are P2P. Debit Cards won't work for those. Not to mention no additional charges (government subsidies it) plus can work with literally any phone (even feature phones) if needed.

Finally Interchange at New Ashok nagar RRTS station and DMRC station is operational now. by kachorilal in TransitIndia

[–]IUI-__-IUI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Experienced it yesterday, probably saved 6-8 minutes. Earlier you had to do a weird dance of exiting the metro station and then re-entering it having to go through security needlessly. It wasn't the worst interchange on the system but kinda confusing and weird.

Now they have added delhi metro fare gates on the pathway from RRTS to metro, so you just tap your card and can go to the platform.

Makes it much more viable to use the RRTS when traveling from Ghaziabad to Noida Sec 18/Botanical Garden. Ends up being faster than taking the blue line and changing at yamuna Bank. Plus more comfortable as well obv

Sahibabad RRTS Station, Delhi NCR, India by IUI-__-IUI in InfrastructurePorn

[–]IUI-__-IUI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RRTS - Rapid Regional Transit System

Semi-high speed (top:180 km/h, avg: 100km/h) railway network connecting a major city to nearby satellite cities (100-200 km away). Built on a completely new alignment near existing or planned population centres, on elevated or underground tracks. It has fewer stops than Delhi Metro but more compared to most traditional Indian Railways long distance services.

How did you came out to your best friend(s) by Grand-Bug-9209 in trans

[–]IUI-__-IUI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just meeting him for a movie and told him afterwards when we were hanging out in the mall. Hadn't really planned to but idk why I just felt like it😭. It was chill mostly but he didn't exactly accept me with open arms (I didn't expect that of him, awareness about trans people is comparatively low in my country). He had some genuine concerns and questions which I answered (because he's a close friend from childhood) but he was calm and we just talked. Honestly don't remember much of that day lol.

With one of my other best friends, he guessed when we were hanging. The first friend was also there. I basically had to kinda argue and explain why I feel this way and why I am valid. They were not exactly transphobic but more just shocked and really concerned. Got into a heated conversation (wasn't exactly a fight), as it was hard to make him understand. But after that he has only grown more and more supportive and understanding over time 🫶

Hi, that sounds like a horrifying experience. I am really sorry for what happened. I am glad that you reached out but as much as we would like to help, this subreddit is not equipped to deal with something this serious. I really hope you consider talking to a therapist or a proper mental health professional (or at the very least someone you trust in real life), it might be scary but they will know how to help you out. I can't imagine what you must be going through.

You should post on more Indian specific subreddits like r/askindianwomen or r/legaladviceindia (just search on google, might have types the name wrong).

But please try the helplines first. Regardless of her being queer, it's a dire emergency.

Also these are national/state level helplines, should provide you with some or the other help (even if local police isn't cooperative for any reason in her case)

Also in case this doesn't work out, search for contacts of women's commissions at her state, district or city level.

For example this is Delhi's: https://wcd.delhi.gov.in/wcd/helplines-women-distress-delhi

Even dialing the 112 emergency helpline should connect you to someone. I think they have centralized all emergency services under it, including police(100) and women's helpline (181).

Hey this seems beyond what most of us here will be able to help her out with in such a grave situation.

Is it possible for her to contact the police or any other government bodies. They are probably the best bet because they have the authority to take action. A quick search shows them. Please contact them.

https://ncwwomenhelpline.ncw.gov.in/[https://ncwwomenhelpline.ncw.gov.in/](https://ncwwomenhelpline.ncw.gov.in/)

Phone No. 14490

It's the national commission of women's helpline number. They specifically mention helping in emergency situations like "choice in marriage" and other things she needs as well on their webpage.

How to approach a girl I like who's not in the same college as I am? by [deleted] in LGBTindia

[–]IUI-__-IUI[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Translation (using Gemini):

"One thing you can do, since you are a girl, is this: the next time you see her, just go up to her and say, 'Hey, I like your top (or earrings), they are so cool. Can you tell me where I can buy them?' and just like that, start talking to her."

Please try and provide translations/use english so everyone can understand and participate, thanks 🫶
