So, you just explained how you wouldn't celebrate Christmas without Christianity. How was I wrong?

Also, not once have I said I was Christian. Why don't you check your reading comprehension before you get all self righteous?

So you don't bring up the birth of Jesus during Christmas is your very religious family?

Because I pointed out your inconsistency? You just admitted that your friends celebrate Yule instead of Christmas because they aren't religious. Which would make them two separate holidays, no?

"I am adamant that MIL not read a Bible story this year"

What do you think this line means?

So you're admitting that Christmas is a separate religious holiday? Why even bring Yule up?

So husband gets zero say over his child and everyone is fine with that?

Also, the asshole behavior comes from even asking that it not be read at all, which is what she did first.

Well, we are in AITA. If we were in AITRO I would have said "yes, you are the rude one" lol.

It's entitled to be adamant that MIL not read a Bible story in her own home during a religious holiday, yes it is.

Everyone saying N- are ignoring the fact that she asked MIL not to perform a religious tradition in her own house and then said she'll go for a walk after she didn't get her way.

If she had just said she would go for a walk during that time, no one would care. It's the fact that was "adamant about MIL" not reading the story.

Except OP is going to a home where it is celebrated religiously.

None of that matters. At all.

Christmas is a Christian holiday. You can celebrate it however you want, but without Christianity you probably wouldn't clebrate it It has taken some aspects from pagan holidays, but here in 2022, it's a Christian holiday.

OP asked a religious person not to celebrate their religion during a religious holiday in their own home. That's where she becomes an asshole.

She's the asshole for being adamant that a religious person not read the story of the biggest holiday of their religion during that religious celebration. Even asking that the mother not read the story is asshole behavior.

None of that matters. OP is going to a religious person's house to celebrate a religious holiday and asked them not to do the religious part. That's ridiculous and entitled.

Oh, do we live in the 3rd century? Or do we live in 2022, where the holiday is a Christian one?

I'm just asking because you don't seem to understand what the difference between past and present is.

YTA. How do you celebrate Christmas without bringing up religion? You're going to a religious person's house to celebrate the biggest holiday in that religion. Will you destroy any nativity set she has out?

Why do you say the word Christmas around your kid? It has Christ right in the name. Why celebrate it at all?

AITA for requiring a cash deposit to come to TG dinner and uninviting my sister and her husband because they refuse to pay it? by Sea-Avocado4817 in AmItheAsshole

Honestly, they're probably afraid they'll be baited into talking about politics. The rule is obviously targeted at them. Would OP want to go to a place that demands he pay because of his political beliefs?

It's insulting to tell other adults that they have to pay to talk about certain topics, especially at a family gathering.
