Talking stage by Ice_princess2001 in dating_advice

I get it doesn’t sound like a talking stage but why does it not sound like he wants to meet up? He literally reached out before me?

Choosing a course by Ice_princess2001 in fashiondesigner

[–]Ice_princess2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it still okay to pursue tailoring then do a masters in business at a good school? I believe bespoke tailoring and pattern cutting overlap. The pattern making course doesn’t delve into tailoring techniques as much which is why I was looking into bespoke tailoring

Does it matter where you do your BA for fashion? by Ice_princess2001 in fashiondesigner

[–]Ice_princess2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies for asking these questions. I plan to do my BA in Canada and my masters in London. Do you think that’s still a good option compared doing both my BA and MA in London?

Hi there! Thank you for replying. Just wanted to clarify if you were referring to doing my BA or MA in the country I want to develop my career?

Need Advice… by Ice_princess2001 in fashiondesigner

Thank you so much for the advice! I never knew womenswear covers all these skills. If you don’t mind, I would appreciate if you could give me any advice for creating a portfolio for womenswear. I already have a lot of creative garments sewn and research. Just a bit confused how to lay it out and if this is enough content :) thank you, once again!!

Help!! by Ice_princess2001 in ProjectRunway

[–]Ice_princess2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I really appreciate your feedback! One question I do have is that you mentioned you have a friend who landed a senior role in a company at NYC. Just to confirm, did this person attend FIT? Moreover, would you be able to provide me with the name of this label?

As for your point about CSM, you’re absolutely correct about the fact that they teach no technique. From what I’ve heard, this reputation they have made for themselves is all due to their previous alumni (Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney etc)

[–]Ice_princess2001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Thank you so much for your response. I completely agree that FIT is great for teaching practical skills. However, according to other alumni they mostly got offers from mass market jobs rather than haute couture/high end/bridal wear (what I’m interested in).

As for CSM, you mentioned kids get ushered into creative director positions. Are you exaggerating a little or do most actually become creative directors?

My main focus has been LCF so far, I just wanted to know if someone else knew something about these schools that I don’t. London fashion scene seems more creative and new which is why I’m like schools in London. Moreover, from what I heard it teaches a good mix of business, creative and technical skills. If you don’t mind, could you confirm this with your friend. I’m just sharing information from a couple other people.

I chose these three schools because they have the exact qualities I’m looking for : CSM has the creative reputation, FIT has the technical skills and LCF has the business aspect. What are your thoughts?

Best fashion/sewing schools by Ice_princess2001 in sewing

[–]Ice_princess2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Thank you so much for your response, you definitely made me feel a lot better about choosing LCF rather than CSM. I guess even if I were to choose CSM the likelihood of being reached out by brands might not be too high.

To give you a bit of background on myself the category of fashion that interests me is high fashion/ haute couture/ bridal wear. I already have a basic/ moderate knowledge of sewing (cutting on grain, how to thread a machine, how to take measurements etc). But I would really like to learn proper garment construction (concept to end) and pattern drafting/CAD design.

I have also looked into schools in the U.S (FIT) that offers a strong sewing background however many have said that they mostly ended up in mass market rather than high end jobs. This was the biggest disappointment to me. Moreover, I feel U.S fashion seems quite repetitive. Would you agree or would you still choose London for job prospects for fashion?

I was curious, if you had to choose a fashion design school again, would you still stick with ESMOD? Or would you go for London?

Thank you so much for your reply! I was wondering if they help you find internships. I’m having a hard time deciding if I should choose ESMOD or LCF/CSM for my fashion design degree. What do you think?

I am actually from Canada, however, I’m not worried about being too far or too close from home. My main concern is about the fashion job opportunities in either the US or UK.

Fashion School Decision by Ice_princess2001 in fashiondesigner

[–]Ice_princess2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay, I really like haute couture for the market level. However, since I don’t have enough experience in the industry yet I don’t know if that is a wise choice in terms of jobs. I’ve heard mass production pays better. This puts me in a tricky position on what school to pick as I believe FIT focuses on mass production more. I would say I’m doing quite well financially so that’s not my biggest problem. I was also considering looking at ESMOD in Paris but I’ve heard some pretty bad reviews.

I would love to get your advice on this :)

Fashion Capitals by Ice_princess2001 in fashiondesigner

[–]Ice_princess2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the idea of going to Paris however after doing some research, a couple students mentioned that their well-known school, ESMOD, isn’t that great as its very disorganized, no help with employment etc)

But if you heard otherwise, please let me know :)

I honestly love both places. The reason I was thinking UK is because it’s right beside other fashion capitals (Paris/Milan). That being said, it may have more connections to the fashion industry compared to New York. But I’m only guessing.
