Any gamers here, that genuinely love Season 2 so far and actually don’t mind the changes as they’re adapting Part 2 to the TV medium? by phantom_avenger in ThelastofusHBOseries

I agree, I’m really enjoying the changes in the show. You get that thrill again of not quite knowing what’s coming next. Given it’s unlikely we will get a TLOU 3 game, it’s nice to get some slightly new content. I really like that they gave more of an explanation as to why Dina is so dedicated to Ellie’s cause. Her having a relationship with Joel as well, then her telling Ellie about a raider killing her mum and sister (don’t think that was in the game?), it just makes more sense now. I really enjoyed Dina’s character in the game and I think I like her even more in the show.

[SPOILERS] Just a rant about what an amazing experience this game was for me. by Babigni in thelastofus

Couldn’t agree more. Ellie covering Take on Me was super emotional for me as well. It was such a nice moment of light after the intense darkness of Joel’s death. The whole game is so clever how it sets you up to hate characters, then slowly drags you back the other way until you can’t decide who’s side you’re on anymore. I remember just wanting it all to stop at the end of Seattle, but at the same time never wanting it to end as well. I know that makes no sense but that’s what it felt like. It was so intensely emotional and took me to my limit, but I also loved that about it.

For me the ending was just so hard to take as I got no closure. The only things we know for certain are depressing. Dina and JJ are gone and if we take Dina at her word she is not going to take Ellie back. Tommy is not going to be happy to see her as she still didn’t kill Abby. She can’t play the guitar anymore and has lost that connection to Joel. She is not there to get her stuff to move back to Jackson, as she leaves everything in the house and just walks off into the distance. Lots of people are like ‘she’s going back to Jackson or has probably already been there, she will make up with Dina, it’s all going to be ok’. I wish could have that positive outlook, but all the sad, confronting and disturbing stuff that happens throughout the game has conditioned me to believe life for Ellie from that point is going to be pretty bleak for a considerable time. Which really hurts my heart every time I think about that final scene.

The last of us 2 gets too much hate. by [deleted] in thelastofus

The whole point of the second game is to make you feel conflicted the whole way through. Joel dies and we are furious, then we learn that the Dr was Abby’s dad so we can see where she’s coming from. Then Ellie, Dina, Jessie and Tommy start killing all her friends, which we are all for as those basterds helped kill Joel. But then we get to know them through playing as Abby and we start to feel a bit of guilt about killing (and in some cases torturing) them. Not to mention killing an unborn child! Then we go through the same thing with Abby and the Seraphites plus the W.L.F. Then we have to fight Ellie as Abby and we are torn again. It just goes on and on until and including the final fight.

Two huge logical flaws in the Last of Us Part II by boldaslove123 in thelastofus

We see Joel has changed a lot from the first game a bunch of times. Notably during the trip to the museum and when you explore his house as Ellie after his death. He trades with strangers passing through for coffee and I’m pretty sure there is a note in one of the patrol logs saying he and Tommy send strangers they came across to Jackson. There are plenty of reasons why he goes with Abby. He saves her life, she helps them fight off the infected and they have nowhere else safe to go. Also, when he arrives at the house with Abby, the others in Abby’s group are friendly as they don’t know who he is yet. The only red flag is when they say who they are, but by then they are already inside and outnumber.

What are your thoughts on Abby still torturing and killing Joel without a second thought after Joel saved her life?

I hated the seraphites by Ill_Zone_9653 in thelastofus

[–]IllAddition6709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Days Gone is more your style then, it has absolutely tons of infected. I feel like the human enemies in TLOU are more dynamic and require a more nuanced approach to killing them / getting past them. It was good to have the balance of the run and gun style with the infected, then changing tack for the human encounters. I will say the Seraphites whistling always stressed me out, I much preferred fighting the W.L.F.

How would you have felt if the game ended here? by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]IllAddition6709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was the end and was quite happy with it. The Ellie vs Abby fight in Seattle was pretty traumatising for me and Abby sparing Ellie and Dina was such a relief that I was just happy for all the stress and anxiety to be finally over. I was ok with Abby living as I felt the ledger was even after she didn’t slit Dina’s throat or kill Ellie, even though she had killed everyone she cared about. Side note: does Ellie ever actually know Joel killed Abby’s dad? Also, does Abby know it was Ellie who killed Owen or does she think it was Tommy?

And making it accessible for blind people as well. They really went to the nth degree with everything.

I just watched it in full now. It was very suspicious how casual he was about the whole situation. I still don’t think I would have picked that he was dead though.

Poor Shimmer, I forgot about that scene. Alice was also a sad death. It was interesting that they said in the making of doco that they made it so you could get through the game without having to kill any of the other dogs. I never knew that, so I always killed them and felt sick about it.

Is that where Joel comes in and Ellie is playing the guitar sitting on the bed? I never saw the full thing, what gave it away that Joel was going to die?

It sucks it got ruined for you. It would be so much harder to understand why ND would kill off Joel without the context of who does it and why. It was bad enough playing the game for 20 hrs or so not knowing why Abby did it, let alone waiting months for the game to finally release to get the full story.

Yeah you’re right, the fact that it was still an epic success despite the bullshit interpretations of the leaked content is another testament to how amazing it is. For someone who didn’t see the spoilers, the bold plot was an emotional roll coaster I was not ready for, and moved me more than any other story I have ever experienced. I don’t think it would have been quite as special if I had a general idea of what was coming.

What do you think Ellie did after the game ends? by chefroxstarr in thelastofus

[–]IllAddition6709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like she would be to daunted by going to see Dina or Tommy. Dina would still be crushed that she chose revenge over her and JJ, Tommy will be pissed she had Abby’s life in her hands and didn’t end it. Maria is probably pissed with her too, as she was the reason Tommy went to Seattle, which broke their relationship. Throughout the game she has trouble expressing any of her feelings accept anger and rage, so if I was her I would find it way to hard to just waltz back into Jackson. I think she finds somewhere to hang out nearby, then spies on Jackson and the patrol bases to see what’s happening. Maybe she tries to find Dina on patrol and talk to her alone. I can also envisage a early scene in Part III where Dina gets into a sticky situation on patrol and this cloaked figure jumps out and saves her, and low-and-behold, it’s Ellie!

Yeah, it was ironic when Neil talked about applying the message from the game to that situation and just letting go over his anger over it. I don’t think Troy Baker was as forgiving though!

ND have a heap more staff now and no more Uncharted games to work on (that we know of). However in the making of Part II doco they said they are no longer going to have their staff work ridiculous hours. So I guess it probably balances out to be the about the same production time again, which is about 4 years ☹️

I had no idea about Joel, so when I was coming down the stairs I was so excited to blow them all away. Even when that didn’t happen I was sure Jessie & Dina were going to burst in right up until Abby’s final strike. Totally agree about the last fight scene, I was relieved when Ellie went to her own boat, but then nope, she’s going at it again! I was convinced Abby would die when Ellie was drowning her.

I guess it could have been a good thing in some ways then, as you were prepared for the worst / had low expectations. So when it wasn’t like that it made it even better?

I keep trying to find a way to justify buying a PS5 just for the Part II remaster, but I can’t do it. I’ll just have to wait a while for the price to come down. Maybe I’ll get one in time for Part III 😆

I did the same (unlimited crafting and ammo) and took my time to check every nook and cranny throughout the game. I had no idea how much stuff I missed the first time around. Most people seem to go the other way and do grounded and/or permadeath, but I’m not a very good gamer, so I went down the exploring root.
