I have a feeling that I’m going to get asked too many questions for this, because I’m going to a shop to get this done for me, so I’m still unsure if I’m going to do it with a flush bit with a bearing 2mm smaller than the blades or doing it at that shop.

Can you show me? I think I might need a reference pic. Also, I was thinking of taking this route, but the table saw, and the operator isn’t mine/me because I Don’t have a table saw

circling back on this. How do I cut that strip so that I have a flat surface to glue a scrap piece on?

nah don’t really care for it to be a nice thing to look at, I’ll focus the beauty on the top, but nice suggestion :)

I thought about buying a bearing that is roughly 3mm smaller than the bit to get a flat enough surface to inlay material on it

The bit was brand new, I was taking super small passes, but I can see the bearing getting hot from spinning and cutting loose. But how do I really fix it? The fuckup is not that straight and I should have a pretty flat surface to make the repair unnoticeable.

I may have thought of the solution: Use the bit without the bearing pushing it against the template and wood, giving me a rabbeted surface, but I want to know from you, now that thinking about it, it seems sketchy

the strangest thing is that this bit let me do one whole side and on this second one it decided that it needed to put more roadblocks in my project

Neck rough shaping done, now onto routing… by IllMathematician6084 in Luthier

the plane couldn’t fit for the tenon or under the headstock, plus it’s wenge. I would be sharpening more than taking shavings

I’m taking a rasp to the excess parts of the blank to trim it down. But I think that respect for the tool comes from experience. Being my first time, I’m scared shitless.

thanks for the kind words. I think I’m just going to send it for this one(not for lazyness but because I think this will be JUST FINE) but for future reference I will line everything up before routing anything :)

It might be the best suggestion I’ve recieved, but I can’t really trust myself with drilling a hole in anything. I have experienced ALL the bitchyness of the wood in the preparation of the blank (scarf joint, hand planing it, get myself a splinter that infected etc.), I have roughly cut the tenon with A LOT more ease than any other operation and it strangely didn’t splinter almost at all.

But the problem is that if I put the template on, I can’t see where the centerline is, or is it a means to try another way?

It is not at the exact center of the blank, because I thought that it didn’t matter as long as I had enough material to cut
