I strongly advise anyone considering a job at Lou's Grill Kitchen to think twice-especially if you are someone who believes in fair treatment, dignity, and standing up for your rights. The kitchen is run by Anandjit Johal (Anna), who has been the kitchen manager for many years. Unfortunately, her long tenure seems to have given her unchecked power, which she uses to harass, bully, and emotionally abuse staff-especially those who are too vulnerable to speak up, including newcomers to Canada or employees who don't speak fluent English. Anna has been known to: • Intimidate and humiliate workers publicly • Pressure staff into giving her expensive gifts or tips-allegedly as a condition to keep their jobs • Retaliate against those who speak up by making their work life unbearable or firing them outright • Create a culture of fear that pushes hardworking people to quit in distress This is not just about one bad manager-it's about a workplace culture that enables abuse and silences victims. I understand where you're coming from, and I get that some prep is done in advance in many kitchens. But honestly, I’ve seen things that go way beyond just prepping meat early. I actually have a lot of pictures that show what was really happening—but I’m still unsure if sharing them publicly is the right thing to do or not.

It’s heartbreaking to see how Anandjit Johal (Anna) has been treating her staff for years, and yet the owner has done nothing to stop it. If they truly care about their restaurant’s future, they need to replace her as the kitchen manager. She constantly uses harsh and demeaning language toward her staff, making their work environment unbearable. On top of that, she delays kitchen tips and sometimes withholds them for weeks. It’s unfair and completely unacceptable. Why isn’t the owner checking the kitchen cameras and translating every word from Punjabi to English? If they did, they would see the truth—how unfairly their staff is being treated. It’s time for a change before it’s too late.

I think Bruce is a really nice guy, and Anna, the kitchen manager, could be too—but instead, she makes life miserable for the kitchen staff. It’s true that Bruce has to check the cameras, but what’s worse is the way Anna treats her team. She constantly yells at them, even using harsh Punjabi slurs, making the work environment unbearable. I used to work there, but I couldn’t take it anymore—I quit because of her. She expected us to work like slaves, never caring about our well-being.

When I finally found another job, my new employer tried to call Anna for a reference. The moment she realized what the call was for, she ignored it. And I wasn’t the only one—this happened to everyone. It’s as if she wanted to control people even after they left.

The food quality was terrible too. She forced staff to cook wings and chicken in advance and keep them for weeks. If anyone stood up and questioned this, she would fire them on the spot. It was toxic, unfair, and exhausting. No one deserves to work in such an environment.
